Tokyo Game Action and 8 on the Break.

Nick and 2600 of Press Start Comic started up an awesome new web show where they go around and investigate different arcades around the country. The episodes so far covers arcades that has had some TNL coverage in the past/present. 8 on the Break, was previously featured on TNL almost 10 years ago when they were hosting the East Coast Championship series of fighting game tournaments. A similar fate shall await the 1st episode’s featured arcade, Tokyo Game Action (one of my favorite places ever), as bahn is working on a TGA writeup as we speak for the 2 days he went for their Street Fighter IV preview weekend.

Tiger, tiger… Oni Musou!!!

The first official TGA SFIV footage has already made its way onto the Interweb, thanks to legendary SF vet Phil Burnell aka Darksyde Phil. The video was taken during yesterday’s official launch party hosted at Tokyo Game Action located in Winchendon, MA.

While the match doesn’t showcase an excessive use of focus attacks (which I am sure we’ll see executed more frequently over time), it does give us a glimpse of how formidable E. Honda can be. If I recall correctly, Phil landed 93 wins on his second credit with the sumo brawler until Nestor came into the arcade with Sagat. Sadly, a follow-up clip showcasing the end to Phil’s reign wasn’t recorded. Hopefully that will materialize very soon.

Finally!

It’s been a long wait, but Seth Killian briefly mentioned on his blog that a “complete build of Super Street Fighter II Turbo” was featured during the Age of Booty preview party. Could the release not be too far off? At least I won’t be skeptical of the “still set for 2008” release date anymore.

The aftermath.

This will be old news to some as this was first shown at Comic-Con 2008, but both American and Japanese SFIV websites posted up the 2nd anime trailer for Street Fighter IV. The “new” trailer focuses on Chun-Li, Guile, and Cammy’s story after SFII and is animated by Studio 4°C (Tekkon Kinkreet, Rogue Galaxy and Jeanne D’Arc) who will be doing all the anime cutscenes and endings in the console versions. Embedded is the English trailer with the dub voices, if you’d like to watch the Japanese trailer, please go here. Also check out the first trailer too if you haven’t yet.

You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance.

Last week, TNL reported that a new CPU opponent will be available in the arcade version of Street Fighter IV, and just like most people predicted, Gouken was the announced character. Not much is known about him at the moment, but it seems like he’ll have an anti-air hadouken like Sakura in the Versus series. As always, expect the internet to be bombarded with videos on youtube once he becomes available on Friday. Here’s hoping he’ll at least be an interesting take on the classic shoto character formula.
