So long good friend.

It’s official. We’ve just lost one of the best arcades in the US. Tokyo Game Action is to remain closed and will be liquidating all their assets in May due to flooding that hit them on December. Why does this have to happen to such an awesome establishment with such great people? I’m literally speechless right now… (more…)

Something completely different.

Instead of taking us on a tour of another arcade, the folks over at Press Start Comic took a trip back to Tokyo Game Action (featured on the 1st episode of Arcade Hunters) for some karaoke action. Too bad I couldn’t make it at the time or I may have mustered up some courage and bring you all my horrible rendition of Ai Wo Torimodose!! from Hokuto no Ken. YOU WA SHOCK!

Arcade Hunters will go back to their “regular” episodes when the next one airs in 2 weeks. Until then, check out the older episodes if you haven’t yet.

Matches, results, and a promo vid.

A great time was had by all during the Tokyo Game Action ranking battles on Saturday and I’d like to thank Andy, Chie, and the rest of the TGA staff/patrons for the awesome time and hospitality! The place was packed with over 100 people in the building and I definitely see that number growing even more when the next ranbat comes around; especially with Blazblue coming at the end of this month as well as Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and Beatmania IIDX 16: Empress in December! Until then, there’ll be many other events (next weekend will be karaoke nights) in order to raise funds for these machines as well as other games so I urge everyone that can to show them your support and go play!

Plus a ranking battle reminder.

Tokyo Game Action will be providing elementary and junior high students in Winchendon, MA with some much needed after school activities every Friday afternoon through their Fitness through Dance Dance Revolution and Bemani program. Funded by a grant from the Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers program, its goal will be to promote physical fitness, as well as getting kids off the street and giving them something to do after school. While it’s definitely not the first time DDR has been used for good, Tokyo Game Action has shown once again that they’re all about the community and thus deserves a mention (and some props).

Honda smash!

Darksyde Phil just recently published new gameplay videos from last week’s SFIV event hosted at Tokyo Game Action. The new footage shows off more of his solid techinques with Honda (while still endeavoring to develop new tricks of the trade) against the local talent who gathered over the weekend. I had hoped to show you the grand finale to his battle against Nestor, but it turns out someone ran out of tape. Well, I am sure this won’t be the last time you see those two face off in Winchendon’s arcade spot. Hopefully TNL will be there to capture more of these exciting SFIV moments. Until then, here’s a featured clip. More DSP matches can be found here on his YouTube page.
