Cosplayers wanted.

Often we’re willing to make fools of ourselves in the name of impressing our friends, a romantic interest, or in this particular instance: winning a few seconds of fame on TV. Today GameFly announced a campaign designed to enhance its appeal and connection amongst the gaming community in a fun, interactive way: cosplay. Well, okay, it’s not targeting folks like that in particular, but this niche group was the first thing that came to mind.

The GameFly Super Fan Casting Call represents the company’s first contest in which gamers everywhere are being invited to dress up as their favorite video game character for a chance to star in an upcoming TV commercial. Yeah, just like that guy in the commercials who portrayed random personas like the war soldier, wrestler, and Shao Khan wanna-be. All submissions must be under forty-five seconds or less and should “show and tell” why you’re adore GameFly as well as the reasoning behind your video game character selection.

GameFly will also be hosting events in the following cities and times:

  • September 9, Los Angeles: Hollywood and Highland Center – 12 to 6 PM PST
  • September 16, Chicago: ESPN Zone – 12 to 6 PM CST
  • September 23, New York: Hawaiian Tropic Zone – 12 to 6 PM EST

All video submissions will be accepted from August 26 to September 30. Voting is open to everyone beginning October 1 and continuing through October 31. The person whose video gets the most votes will win a trip to Hollywood to appear in GameFly’s next TV commercial.

Gamers offered opportunity to win two tickets to see Metallica (and other cool prizes).

I am starting to think Microsoft is secretly looking to make us all couch potatoes with all these new announcements that are literally turning the 360 into the ultimate platform for home entertainment. Last week, the company revealed an exclusive partnership with Netflix that I am definitely planning to jump on when the program rolls out this fall.

It probably shouldn’t come as a big surprise that Microsoft had another ace up its sleeve as GameFly officially announced a new fully integrated Xbox Live campaign that will give Gold members an exclusive taste of the popular on-demand rental gaming service.

To put it simply, existing members who participate in the GameFly program can enjoy a one-month subscription for the incredibly low price of $5.95. As an added bonus, they’ll get hooked up with 400 Microsoft Points to spend on new demos, gamer themes, or new Xbox Live Arcade releases. (If you’re having difficulty trying to figure out how to use those points, send them off my way.)

The campaign also includes a special sweepstakes in which one lucky winner will walk away with the grand prize of two tickets to an upcoming Metallica contest where he’ll meet the band and receive a signed Xbox 360 console. Additional prizes include 1- and 6-month subscriptions to Xbox Live and a copy of Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. Oh, and there are apparently gamer pics and themes you can get too – but those things I usually overlook.

I wish GameFly were taking this a bit further than a limited-time campaign (the fun ends on September 13th) because Blockbuster would be having nightmares over this missed opportunity. Who knows, perhaps that company has something in the works too. At this rate, nothing Microsoft comes up with really surprise me anymore.

The time has come.

We’ve all been waiting for this moment. Starting tomorrow, the official Super SF 2 Turbo HD Remix beta will be released on Xbox Live. In case you haven’t heard, the beta was included as an add-on bonus for those who’ve purchased Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 for Xbox Live Arcade. So yes, that means you’ve actually have to throw down a bit of e-funds to be among the first to relive this enhanced arcade classic.

I bet you wanna be among the first to play it don’t you? Well GotNext is giving (5) lucky winners for the 360.

Update @ 1:22 p.m.  We’ve just discovered PS3 owners won’t be able to participate, but we’ll still hand you a key to get Commando 3 for the PS3 if you’re eager to play it. Sorry for the confusion guys.

To qualify, simply tell us how the correct command on how to perform Vega’s Rolling Izuna Backdrop super move. (Oh, and we’re speaking about the domestic version, so no moves intended for Mr. Psycho Crusha or your entry will be considered GGPO.)

Send your entry to contests@got-next.com with the subject header “Super SF2 Turbo HD Remix”. All correct entries will be placed into a random drawing. Winners will be selected on June 25, 11:30 EST and contacted via email and announced right here on GotNext. Let me repeat that – you’ve got 24hours from the time of this post to enter!

So put away that e-dough and take a shot at our giveaway. Who knows, you may end up a winner and then you can show Seth Killian your awesome skillz.

The beta is scheduled to run for approximately eight weeks, ending around August 20 (or whenever Capcom has decided that they’re sick of getting owned). Hm, me owning Seth Killian — I’d cherish that day.

So while you all start counting down the minutes, here’s a few new batch of screens featuring the Shotokan Duo to help fight that burning sensation to show the rest of the world just how awesome you really are. Check back tomorrow for two HD-quality videos.
