It looks like the PSP Slim will be looking at an early retirement as Sony is already preparing to roll out another sku with some new features developed in response to user demand. Well, that and the fact the company is looking to draw more consumers away from the Nintendo DS.

Slated for release this October, the PSP-3000 model will offer an enhanced LCD screen boasting the best possible video resolution available on any handheld device. The new screen was constructed with anti-reflection technology which basically means it virtually reduces the amount of glare when you’re playing outdoors and well-lit places.

I think the biggest selling point will be the unit’s built-in microphone, allowing users to easily chat with others via Skype as well as titles that make use of voice input. The PSP-3000 will inherit the video-out feature, originally introduced with the first PSP Slim model allowing gamers to play PSP games via non-progressive TV sets.

To commemorate the upcoming release, Sony will introduce two new colors: Pearl White and Mystic Silver. I am placing bets that the UK and Japan regions will get hooked up with some sweeter color tones, which will then force me to import. Though the first thing I am going to have to work on is selling my current Slim model now that it’s no longer the new hotness. Gotta love technology.
