What's this, a football thread where Joust whines about fixed games and bad calls?

Both teams had questionable calls go their way, but that is true about any sporting event where human officiating is involved.
As I've said before:
loses cry about the calls that don't go their way; winners put it behind them and do something about it on the field.
And regardless of what you thought about the officiating in this game, both teams still had an equal chance to win it in OT.
Notre Dame responded by scoring a TD off bad UW defense. Washington's offense then followed it up by allowing a sack and dropping two consecutive passes to end the game.
Bottom line is, Washington lost the game, not the refs.
At some point, you're just going to have to stop blaming the refs and start blaming your team's performance.
Otherwise you'll be running out of sports to watch due to "boycotts" on all these "rigged" sporting events.

Notre Dame didn't have a bad break go against them. Roughing the snapper? Maybe, but UW already scored a TD on that drive. Too bad the replay official is retarded.
Your argument doesn't hold water if the bad calls aren't completely equal. Especially if you say "And regardless of what you thought about the officiating in this game, both teams still had an equal chance to win it in OT. ". Because if UW scores again (like they did to win the game outside of OT) and the dumbass in the booth says OH NOPE YOU DIDN'T, then what? Why do they have an equal chance to win in OT if they didn't have an equal chance to win in regulation?

Refs definitely favor ND, and it sucks, because ND is a bunch of homos.
It angers me to no end that the YES network picked up ND.

I was waiting for that to be pointed out. ND gets a lot of retarded advantages, including their deal with the BCS, but officiating typically isn't one of them.

"They are PAC-10 refs!! "
Not the replay official. Now, are you going to keep repeating what ND fans say, or are you going to look at the picture? Here's another one, in case you say something else like "oh that guy down in the first two isn't the runner"
The REPLAY OFFICIAL overturned the TD, despite the fact that everyone in NBC's own booth said that call was horseshit.
The REPLAY OFFICIAL failed to REPLAY this play, which obviously isn't a 2pt conversion.
Doesn't even matter where the refs come from. Shitty officiating is shitty officiating, especially when you're looking at things that can be fixed. Holding calls? Can't be overturned/upheld whatever. Ball spots? Yes. Get it right; that's all I ask. If Polk wasn't in, Hughes wasn't even in the same area code as the end zone.

ND is frustrating. We're hanging in there with USC so far, but our fundamentals are bad. Coverage on SC receivers is soft, they always have a yard of space to make a play. We suck at tackling, and the O-line is getting beat bad by a 4 man rush. They need to play more soundly.
And now Clausen gets sacked when they only rushed 3! ARG
edit 2 - and there is no pressure on Barkley at all

It's about time the giving away of the game went the other way this year. There is no way Purdue should be a 2-5 team, but when you turn the ball over and do bonehead shit like calling a timeout for Notre Dame, then you fall back to the Parcells saying that you are what your record is. At least Elliott is getting good experience for next year. Maybe he can be yet another Purdue QB in the NFL.

everyone look at this florida vs arkansas game - its tied up 13 all near the end of the 3rd. The number one team at home against an unranked team... I'm sorry - to keep their number one spot, Florida should be beating these guys by 20 or more points. But even if they sqeak out a win here, florida will still be number one. Just watch... this is why the ncaa is fucking bush league bullshit sometimes.

You spelled Alabama wrong.
HAHA Notre Dame. This is what happens when the replay official can't throw the game for you. Enjoy your shitty bowl game and Clausen, you can shove the Heisman up your god damn ass.
Almost an epic choke job by USC...Notre Dumb still looking for its first quality win since I was 5

An overrated #6 team that went into shit mode after building up a 3 TD lead. USC was 10 times better last year. They barely beat OSU (who just got bounced out of the top 15 by a previously 1-5 B10 team), lost to UW...
Best part is that the refs tried to give them this one too at the end. 4 seconds lawl..and questionable flags
Wait, I just heard that the refs are bringing the teams back onto the field. There is .0001 sec left!

Joust, you watch the Huskies last night? That has got to be some of the worst clock mgmt ever.
But it can't stop leaving two WRs WIDE OPEN w/ :13 to go for a 50yd TD pass. Good grief.
Of course, after last week, we're 50/50 on freak endings to games.

Bad play calling and horrible D...they haven't had a game with good D other than versus USC and they were fortunate to get redzone turnovers in that one

Looks like USC is going to finally stop being overranked after a disasterous loss to Oregon.
Iowa on the other hand pulls off yet another unbelievable comeback win, it'd be nice if they could learn how to play football from the beginning of the football game not just in the 4th quarter.

This year MAY be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
The pollsters are lucky that Iowa is not winning impressively, otherwise they would be very exposed right now. For the record, I think Alabama, Florida and Texas are all better than Iowa.
BUT...that's not the real reason that Iowa is behind all of them. This is:
1 Florida (58) 0-0 1498
2 Texas (2) 0-0 1424
3 Oklahoma 0-0 1370
4 USC 0-0 1313
5 Alabama 0-0 1156
6 Ohio State 0-0 1113
7 Virginia Tech 0-0 1054
8 Mississippi 0-0 1047
9 Oklahoma State 0-0 989
9 Penn State 0-0 989
11 LSU 0-0 914
12 California 0-0 746
13 Georgia 0-0 714
14 Boise State 0-0 659
15 Georgia Tech 0-0 593
16 Oregon 0-0 587
17 TCU 0-0 521
18 Florida State 0-0 307
19 Utah 0-0 289
20 Brigham Young 0-0 267
21 North Carolina 0-0 261
22 Iowa 0-0 229
23 Notre Dame 0-0 225
24 Nebraska 0-0 207
25 Kansas 0-0 134
Where are Alabama, Texas and Florida? Top 5. Where is Iowa? 22. This was the AP preseason poll. Polls might be good for early season ratings (oh look, a top 10 matchup!) but it is royally hosing teams like Iowa here. If those other three teams win out until the SEC championship, I don't expect the Big Ten to just sit on their hands. The BCS has gotten lucky with the MWC/Boise State, but they won't get lucky here (note: I think that teams like Hawaii a few years ago weren't very good but I do believe Utah last year and in 04 and TCU this year are truly legit, especially since no team is really wowing me this year). Playoffs are needed.

It's funny that D-IA is the only level of football that doesn't have a playoff.
High school? Playoff.
College at every level besides D-IA (including I-AA, D-II, D-III, NAIS)? Playoff.
Professional? Playoff.
Don't see why they can't just keep their shitty bowl games for the mediocre teams and then have a small playoff between the top teams.

Part of it is that controversy is good for ratings. If they actually solve the problem, less people would watch the talking heads.

Yeah, preseason rankings are a major problem. That's why USC is STILL ranked over Pittsburgh and Utah as well, even though they have two losses. That actually bothers me more than Iowa being 4th (cause I also don't think Iowa is as good as the top three, although I'm not betting against them winning out, not the way they pull comebacks out of their ass so far this year).

The ranking for non-powerhouse teams is definitely screwed up. It just comes down to the money, though. Would neutral stadiums be as willing to host games, and sponsors willing to put as much cash up front, if their games were just a means to an end, rather than an event in itself? I doubt it.

Yep, while some of the missing pass interference calls there at the end were bullshit, the game was really over as soon as Stanzi got injured.

Looks like all the pretenders and weak conferences got exposed this week.
I just wish someone would beat Texas, because their schedule this year is soft as Charmin.

Looks like Stanzi is going to be out next week as well, that sucks. Unless Vandenberg turns shit around quick we're not even going to make the Rose Bowl. We have to beat OSU next week.

In this case it's not the BCS though. It's the poll voters. And I love the cop out of having Iowa and Ohio State right next to each other so they can bury the loser and move the winner inside the top 10.

The Poll Voters are 2/3rds of the BCS, so yeah, it's the BCS that's the problem.
As for Iowa/Ohio... well duh... since the winner is guaranteed the Rose Bowl they HAVE to be able to put the winner in the top 10. If they didn't it would require acknowledging the system is broken.

But the problem existed long before the BCS. The BCS just made the national title game an even bigger circle jerk. Everything else has been broken forever.

Well that's true.
Honestly it's not like it would really be that difficulty to organize a playoff system between league winners to decide the champ. It would just be a fuck you to all the teams that aren't in any league, but honestly they can join one or fuck off... I'm looking at you Notre Dame.

There's really no reason for Notre Dame to not be in the Big 10/Big East aside from the fact that they know they can pad their schedule with cupcakes by not having to play conference games.
Too bad the cupcakes (Navy) have been kicking their ass lately.

Notre Dame should have joined the Big 10 years ago, but they've been afraid of getting the shit beat out of them year round.
