Thinking about picking this up today in order to play co-op with a friend. We've been jonesing for a good game that has a strong cooperative component since completing Saints Row 2 awhile back...

Will hit 50 today. Thanks to Cap/Bacon/Necro for last night's carnage.

Got 50 and found that last Claptrap.
It was in Crazy Earl's Scrapyard. There's an easily-overlooked fork to a huge section I'd never noticed, because no mission ever sends you there.

Destroyer is a bitch solo on the second playthrough. Not really difficult, just takes an absurd amount of damage to kill. I am a little disappointed that nothing ever comes of ninja clap trap.
Should be getting some DLC very soon it seems.

From 1up.com

Borderlands' barren wasteland setting isn't the only aspect of the game that's following in Fallout 3's radiation-bathed footsteps; like Bethesda's game, it's also going to play host to a series of post-release, downloadable add-ons. Gearbox announced today that "The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned" will be the first of several planned DLC expansions for Borderlands.
According to the press release, this Dr. Ned fellow was in charge of keeping the workers of Jakobs Cove alive. Through what sounds like some sort of well-intentioned mishap, said workers have apparently been twisted into a mindless horde of undead horrors -- leaving it up to players to help Ned fight off the zombies, discover a cure, and retake the Cove.
This first add-on will go for $9.99 (800 Microsoft points) when it arrives on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC later this year. No word on what to expect from future Borderlands DLC as of yet, but we'll keep you updated.

If it is big enough in scope, this could be awesome. I'd love to see increase in lvl cap, new weapons obviously and new abilities.

Played the crap out of this yesterday and went from level 1 to 17 through the course of the day.
Now, why or what's up with having to do a 2nd playthrough?

You don't have to do a 2nd playthru, it is basically higher difficulty so you can get to level 50 faster.

My buddy and I are hooked on completing the in-game achievements rather than completing missions. We're so hooked we actually waste bullets to purchase ammo so we could reach 500 items purchased, which is 20,000 xp. My buddy got it last night, I'm close. I'm almost at 100,000 shots fired, which is also 20,000 xp.
Also..
..Awesome song.

If you like Cage the Elephant check out their album. Pretty solid. I really like the song In One Ear.

Is this worth playing single player?

Dragon Age is an honest-to-god single-player game. Borderlands isn't. So I guess it depends on what you're looking for.
And for what it's worth, I really like Dragon Age's combat system. The focus on micro and positioning is a good thing.

I doubt you will like it since you dislike Fallout 3. This game reminds me of a cell-shaded action F3 with all loot being weapons.

Fallout 3 and Borderlands are extremely different aside from setting. Combat is a billion times more enjoyable in BL, for one.

BL is combat/action focused, but it reminds me a lot of F3.
