Great sketching Hero, Kev. I really wish I could do more sketching. Makes a big difference in the looseness of your work when need to really get to business.

Here's some little minotaur guys I'm doing for a project. They're kind-of silly, but there's a lot of parameters I have to work within to generate the designs and keep everyone happy.

My entry for the Muramasa fan art contest. Only learned about the contest a week ago so it's a bit rushed. If there was more time I'd like to darken everything a bit and work more on the trees.

Pretty wicked, regardless. I wanted to do something myself, but I also heard about it a week ago, and it's been way too hectic to do any drawing since.

Hero, here's the contest link:

Some impressive work in there.

It's been running since July apparently, Furyfox's KOF XII post was the first peep I heard of it.

And I really want to draw a Muramasa picture. Hopefully I'll get a chance to play the game soon and come up with an idea.

Holy shit! Long time no post (actual artwork anyway). I was bored today so I resorted to reliable old standby subject matter. Sometimes it is just fun to draw monsters. So here is a zombie I did this afternoon/evening.

Not exactly what I usually post, but it is good fun I think.

That's pretty awesome!

I did a Luigi in paint to complement my Mario. "Your moustache is looking quite vivacious today, brother," he'd say.

Hahaha. that is pretty great. I love the pink nose. Are you doing these with a mouse or a tablet? On one hand using a tablet with Paint seems absurd to me, but I'd be flailing all over the place trying to draw anything with a mouse period.

Ok, I feel better now. I recently got a 12 inch intuous 3, and I've been playing with that a lot. I'll post some tablet doodles soon (the zombie was done on sketchpad on my iphone, that's why it is so low res).

Yeah, I'm probably going to fix that. It's as much the front leg not selling the foreshortening as the back one being stretched out too far. I really hate the anatomical proportions this project sticks me with, because it makes it really hard for me to pose the characters. They're basically the opposite of what I normally draw (short torso/long limbs/small head/big muscles or boobs), and even posing the stick figures with these weird, baby-like bodies is hard.

How do you like it? I've been using the same 6x8 Intuos2 for 5-6 years now, feels like it needs an upgrade.

I'm still very green to making finished art digitally, but I love it. I've used photoshop as a tool to assist in composing things for my paintings for years, but it is pretty amazing how the program opens up once you connect a tablet to it. I feel pretty foolish for not getting into this earlier.

As far as the size of the tablet goes, I can't see how a bigger one could possibly be worse when it comes down to making marks. The only knock I would give it is that It can be pretty bulky compared to some smaller tablets I've played with, If you ever take it with you for use with a laptop it can be a bit of a pain (the actual size of it is bigger than my 15" Macbook). But since this is the first one I've owned, I'd hate to lose drawing area with a smaller one.

I got it for the right price too, trading a comission for a medium size painting!

Sounds like a great snag. I think in addition to the bigger size, having the widescreen aspect ratio would be nice. I have to force proportions on mine, so I'm losing another inch or so off the bottom as well. I've used some big tablets on-site and they definitely make a difference in the level of control.

tell me about it! I've had an original Intuos 1 4x5 (you know, the smallest one) since 2002 and I'm pretty sure it's contributed to my tendonitis =p

At jobs though I've used the mid and large sizes, along with a large Cintiq on one gig, and it's sublime.

Soooooo...anyone want to trade a commission for an upgraded tablet? =D

oh man, Muramasa contest is over =(

But Low, I was looking at the others and yours is definitely one of the strongest out there. Solid, well constructed, the impressionistic style lending to subject itself, and its unique in a field of samey anime-influenced fan art that overlooks the things you seem to take into considerarion with the work.

So dude, you totally need to win this.

Thanks. At any rate it was good practice and a chance to work out a few kinks in my creative process. If I can get some time I'd like to do another work with the same idea but different style.

I made these this past weekend for my niece's 10th birthday party. For some reason 3 days before the party I told my niece that I thought I could do this so I was then on the hook to make it happen. I spent just over an hour on each cake. It's easy to spot where I made errors and decided to hell with it. Anyway, I've posted the pic that I used as a reference. Doing pictures free hand with icing is a lot more of a mess than I thought it would be.

I really like the guy in the middle with the mace chain wrapped around his forearm, nice Dynamic pose.

One question though, why do the guys have hooves while the chick appears to have human feet?

Thanks! They actually all have human feet, but some of the footwear is drawn to look cloven. I'm sort-of limited on what poses I come up with, since the characters have to fit a card template, and everything's just full bodies at this point.

Arjue: Those are some chunky pixels. View from the office window sort-of thing?

What spurned this midgetaur-style illustration for you? You used to do busty half-human chicks and now you're doing these. Just wonderin'.

It's for a job. Same project as the desert-themed kids earlier in the thread. They get sent to a graphic designer that integrates them into a card game template, but I haven't seen the final result yet.

While I have nothing against them, I don't really consider myself to have some penchant for these alleged busty, half-human chicks. I think most were from videogame designs anyway.
