Oduya is minus-6 with no points in the team’s first seven games after signing a three-year, $10.5 million contract this summer. He doesn’t believe that’s put extra pressure on him to perform.

He's not worth it.
Nice game to watch - it was pretty close throughout. A bounce here and there and it's the Rangers game. Devils are on a roll.

I said Oduya was overpaid the minute they gave him that contract. He'd be a #4 d-man on my team, ideally, and even then I'd want to ditch him. He has more shitty turnovers than White used to have.
I'll trade you Rolston for Gaborik btw. Fucker can't score at all.

He looks just as bad as last year - especially considering the team he had/has in front of him.

Nice choice by NHL Network to show Toronto and Vancouver in the US. No one gives a fuck about that game, though I would be more pissed if Goligoski didn't get a meaningless goal to screw up the record tying shutout. Maybe Brodeur is saving it for a Versus game...
I feel like it's 199X again listening to the damn games on a radio broadcast, but at least I can't see the lack of officiating.

Best game of the season for the Devils. I was bummed about the shutout loss too, best game Marty's played all year. He was phenomenal.

Speaking of bullshit officating, how is this 5 minutes for interference and a game misconduct?
You can't even get a one one thousand in there between the pass and the hit.

because the NHL is a pussy league now. Still the puck was gone and he did lower the shoulder and stride in afterward...it's splitting hairs though. You can't make a decision to not hit him that quickly.

So you don't think it was a dirty hit? C'mon man, Richards clearly took aim and busted him up. It's obvious to me the intent to injure was there. Booth didn't even see it coming.
I'm as pro big powerful check as the next guy, but these head shots are ridiculous.

Paul Martin left with an apparent injury with 6:05 left. Fuck!
I'm ok with anything as long as it's not an elbow. Head up, kid. You're in the major league.

There is absolutely nothing dirty about that hit. It's the puck carrier's responsibility to keep his head up. Richards didn't lead with his elbow, which would be the only way that hit would be dirty.
And keep in mind that this is coming from someone who never wants to see any team from Philadelphia ever win another game.

I still don't understand how the Devils draw so few penalties. Looks like we're going to be either near the bottom or at the bottom of the league yet again.

Don't get me started on that shit.
The best case answer is that they are disciplined and commit very few and that the refs have this ridiculous desire to even out the penalties, regardless of who commits how many. And that's a pretty awful best case.

It's a shit case. Devils take a lot of penalties. They haven't been disciplined in a long time. It's my number 1 thing that frustrates me about the "new" team that has evolved since the flight of our elite defense.

They were 22nd in PKs last year. That's fairly disciplined. Now they were 13th the year before.

Not excellent then, but good. Parise is clean as hell (he took a penalty tonight though) as is Pandolfo, but Jamie takes penalties, Rolston holds all the time, Clarkson....Clarkson.
Pelley takes penalties, PL3, dunno about Niedermayer yet but he looks good (replacing Madden, who was clean) and our rookies...well we'll see. Martin and White are fairly disciplined but Salvador takes penalties and so does Greene.
Lemaire is another coach that teaches discipline though so hopefully we'll be near the bottom of penalties taken again.
Lemaire is doing a pretty wonderful fucking job btw, so far.

It appears defenseman Paul Martin and left wing Jay Panfolfo might both be out for a while.
Pandolfo’s right shoulder popped out of the socket on a hit from behind from ex-Devil Mike Rupp in the second period of the Devils’ 4-1 win over the Penguins tonight.
Martin’s left forearm was wrapped in an Ace bandage after the game. He said he was hit with a shot and slashed on it in the third period.
When asked if it was broken, Martin replied, “Maybe.”
Both players left Mellon Arena with their arms in slings said they would know more Sunday after being examined by team doctors. Martin had yet to undergo an X-ray.
Devils coach Jacques Lemaire called the injuries “scary” and said the prognosis for both did not look good.

So a slash that may have broken Martin's arm wasn't called. I guess evening up the penalties, even when they are legit, doesn't occur when Pittsburgh is the opponent.

We played friday as well, so I don't think we were at our best. Our PP is really aimless without Gonchar. There is so much work to be done. Gogo looks good out there, though. I figured Yoshi would come alive in here. Marty did look good tho. He wants his record.. After that however, we'll see...
Also, we might not always win the battle, but we win the war Stop crying about penalties.

The last two Rangers games (Rangers, Devils - 3 total penalties) and Rangers/Montreal were officiated well. I didn't notice the refs.
Torts benched Dubinsky & Higgins (deservedly) - but I hope it's a tactic he doesn't overuse. Higgins looks shot, btw, his career might be over.

Yeah, that Yoshi vid up there isn't a penalty. *Maybe* he could've adjusted himself a little and not dished out the hit - but the puck was there and you're supposed to finish your checks. The penalty is BS.

The hit on Toews is being considered for suspension too. Whatever, pussy sport.
Yo so Gaborik, unbelievable as ever, (2g tonight, and I think 1a) is taking his first physical break of the season it looks like. He was limping around and did not return to the ice to receive first star honors.

Salary Cap: Where Good Players Leave The League Because They Can't Get Paid.
PS I can't believe the Rangers got Lisin for Korpikoski. Rangers are very easy to root for this year. Graaaaar. Makes me real angry.

Tell me again how Elias is better than Gaborik, Yoshi. And don't even talk about injuries since the guy you're defending hasn't played yet this year.
Healthy Gaborik > Elias.
He's tied for 1st in the league in goals and is 2nd in points. Ahead of Ovie.
Cow: Most Rangers fans (not me) weren't happy with that deal over the summer (Lisin for the Korpedo) - but Lisin's got a much better upside - especially with a coach like Torts.
Gaborik is termed as "nothing major" by a few Rangers beat writers. I don't think it's anything serious. He's a force. So is Parise.
And how about Del Zotto. 13 points in 12 games. He's not a flash in the pan. The guy has talent. +1 to Slats for that draft.

12 games doesn't even begin to define a flash, as a pan would be a whole careeer. So don't go anointing him yet eh?
And wow look at that, the Laughs finally won a game.

Why won't Hamilton get an NHL team?
Because then Toronto would want one, too.

Whatever I'm not that into fantasy this year. Head to heads are kind of silly imo with the way hockey is scheduled, and PIM are still a positive but there's no +/-.
Man, in my preseason predictions I forgot to seriously consider LA.

We did +/- last year, and its a throwaway in head to head. The head to head is for us to bet on each week.
If you notice, I have LA's scoring line. It makes the season much more enjoyable

Went to a luxury box last night. Too bad we got crushed. I met Marshall, Rheaume, and Bruce fucking Driver. I also told Dano what I thought of his performance on battle of the blades.

Oduya out now. I don't see how Lou can go on like this without getting another d-man.
Funny how we carried so many last year.
It'd be nice if we could win at home. You know, when I see them.

Predators' offense is so bad this year with Arnott out indefinitely and no one else stepping up.
When it's full strength, the other teams pretty much live in the Nashville zone.
Dunno how we kept Chicago off the board tonight.

Nashville is one of those teams we always struggle againt. So many times I've seen us decimate Detroit, Vancouver or Calgary only to lose the next night to Columbus or Nashville.

They'll still miss the playoffs, despite playing in a garbage division, and then have a fire sale of any talent they do have.

I'm really...I mean an eighth of the season is gone and I really don't know anything about anything in the NHL this year, it seems. My fantasy team from last year would be doing really well though.
I'm still trying to cope with all the crazy changes. Teams look so different. Look at Phoenix having success early with the new coach Tippett and a bunch of new players. Tanguay and Lecavalier are on the same line. Everything's different, way different, save for a few teams. Fucking salary cap.
Seeing Boston struggle makes me smile though. Their power play numbers through October are outrageously poor.
This Toronto game I'm watching has been reffed pretty poorly. I was watching a very well reffed game the other day though, can't remember who it was. Oh well.
It's fun seeing the Islanders beat anyone. Moulson lolol. About to watch the NYR play Vancouver with its rookie of the month and stupid good power play. At least I called the Rangers being good this year....so far anyway. Lundqvist is my fantasy stud starter...

Oh my god and so many injuries! And where the fuck did Peverley come from? Undrafted out of Nashville and claimed by Atlanta off of waivers? What?!
Carolina is having a horrible start! Good, fuck 'em! And Staal is out. Fuck him too.
Seriously I'm so confused.

The injuries have the fantasy teams in disarray. Almost all of us have been bit by the bug. Pissed I didn't get Peverley too. Not quick enough.
The Pens are staying afloat even though our powerplay is sucking. We're getting points from everywhere though. We got a couple more weeks to go till Malkin and Gonchar come back so come on December!
