Turrican

I recently played Mega Turrican on the Genny. I was quite suprised by how good it is. Kinda reminds me of Mega Man, Bionic Commando, and Bravoman mixed together.

I got me a copy of Super Turrican as well, and am seeking the Original on the Genny. Are there any other Turrican games?

Anyone else like the Turrican games or know anything about them?

Yes, Mega Turrican and Super Turrican are great, but the original Turrican blew chunks.

I loved Mega Turrican, moreso than Super Turrican for some reason.

"Original on Genny"? Man, did nobody play the Amiga here? Anyway, Turrican's pretty cool - kind of Metroidish in terms of the abilities and weapons you get. But it was also freaking hard, like every late 80s Euro game had to be.

Yep. It sure did.

Edit: Although, I must confess to playing the hell out of the game. One of my very early Genesis titles -- remember that weird cardboard box the game came in?

I have always liked the series. The original was great on Amiga and the Genesis port was really well done.

Factor 5 has an impressive development history.

C64

Is the Commodore 64 slipping from the collective memory?

Turrican was originally a Commodore 64 game even before it was an Amiga game. If you want the original version then that's the one to get. And Turrican 2!

All I have really played is Super Turrican, and its a great game! Really fun and pretty unique graphics and level layout. Its pretty damn tough like a lot of you have said. I need to play Mega Turrican though.

Mikey, the Commodore 64 version of Turrican came out at the same time as the Amiga one, I believe. Both came out in 1990.

They were making C64 games in 1990!? Dang. I didn't even know there was a C64 version. (although wasn't Turrican '89?) Anyway, I'd have to say Super Turrican was the best of the bunch.

Hell, in Europe there were C64 games as late as 1998. Games like Street Fighter 2 and Ninja Spirit should never have been released on the C64.

I thought Turrican was a 1989 game too but their site says 1990.

All I knew about was that wack Brazillian Master System SF2. How the hell could the game work on a 64k system?

Videogame Trivia:

What game, released in Japan was supposed to be titled Super Turrican 3 in the states but came out too late in the Snes's life cycle to be considered?

Anyone?

well that's dissapointing to hear Turrican blows chunks.
I just bought it, brand new, off ebay.
I had it delivered to my friend's apt in NYC though because he just found a Genesis in his neighbors trash. He's played the crap out of NES Metroid for the past months, so maybe he'll get into Turrican enough to hang with the difficulty.

Dunno. But I think I seen a pic of it in EGM and it had a desert level where you fly a ship.

I picked up a copy of Super Turrican for SNES a month or so ago and still haven't got around to beating it due to it's difficulty and my rapidly declining gaming skills.

Is everyone forgetting about Super Turrican 2? The game is fucking incredible and is worth whatever you end up paying for it. Factor 5 truly do know their shit.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe Super Turrican 2 ever made it stateside. It's really a shame that they never brought it to the USA because I've heard so many great things about it yet I haven't had the chance to play it.

The C64 version is 1990. I just checked the back of the case. The Amiga version came later in 1990. I remember Zzap reviewed it a few issues after they reviewed the C64 one. They said it wasn't quite the spectacular achievement it was on C64 but it was still great.

Holy shit, I just bought a copy of this for $5 loose, and it's fucking amazing. Crazy mode 7 effects, tons of shooting, bionic arm swinging effects, it's like Contra 3 mixed with Bionic Commando. I've played some of the other Turricans on various platforms, but this one escaped my notice.

Talk about a diamond in the rough.

I have super & mega, gave away regular turrican for the genny. I need to look into finding Super Turrican 2. Pretty cool series.

Wasn't there a Universal soldier game that was a total Turrican ripoff?
