I mean games that weren't big name games but you still remember the fun you had playing them as a kid. For me it's probably Captain Skyhawk, Fester's Quest, and Predator. Trying to think of more.....

The Adventures of Lolo trilogy was easily one of the best puzzle game franchises that came to the NES, but it never got much mainstream attention, sadly. I sometimes dream of HAL developing a Lolo sequel for the GBA or GCN...man, that'd rock.
Conquest of the Crystal Palace, perhaps one of the best, yet least known side-scrollers.

Conquest of the Crystal Palace and Circus Charlie. The latter saw you as Circus Charlie, a circus clown who had to perform wild stunts to earn points. It was actually quite amusing, until you beat it . I'll never forget clearing that first stage. Jumping those fire hoops was hard .
-Faxanadu
-Clash at Demonhead
-Fester's Quest
-Kabuki - Quantum Fighter
-Shadow of the Ninja
-Code Name: Viper (I loved this game before I ever knew what Rolling Thunder was)
-Power Blade
-Willow
Well, I was'nt a kid when the NES came out, but I highly enjoyed M.U.L.E.
I have it for the C-64 and loved the game so much, that I bought it for the NES. The C-64 version was actually better, in presentation, but to just put a cartridge in and power it up, was worth the minor hit it took in graphics and sound.
RPG's were'nt that big in the NES days, so my second game would have to be Final Fantasy. I'm sure it sold a couple hundred thousand, but it was anything but mainstream.
Milon's Secret Castle-What a great game. I heard that there is a part 2 that was never released here but someone made an english skin to play it on an emulator in english.
Mighty Bomb Jack-Very cool one screen at a time puzzle game.
Solomon's Key-Same as above but better. You better be ready to play if you fire this bitch up.
The Krion Conquest- The best Megaman style game outside of MM. Very overlooked.
I'm sure there are more. I'll post again later if I remember anymore.

They ported Circus Charlie to the NES?! Oh man, the arcade version is one of the coolest games ever.

Dang, why do so many people like Festers Quest? I thought it was complete trash when I rented it. What was I missing?
No, you're not missing anything, Fester's Quest is shit in it's purest form. Same goes for you Spodaddy, Predator is laughably bad.
I'm trying to think back to that era of my life, but memory is so fuzzy, I can barely even remember what non nintendo games I owned, so I'll just say Skate or Die, I loved that little game.

How can you not like Festers Quest? I suggest you guys go play it again...
If you still dont like it then please go back to playing Amagon!
Let's see, Faxanadu was a fantastic action RPG, one of the best on the NES, but sadly never gets the praise it deserves. Same goes for Startropics. Monster Party is another one of my favorites. Zanac is another game I enjoyed back then; today its reputation has been rehabilitated somewhat.

The Camerica/Codemaster games with the SuperChip inside were pretty cool because of the huge sprites they could use. Ultimate Stuntman in particular comes to mind.

Praying for a Cosmic Fantasy Collection for PS2, Xbox and GameCube.
Everyone's already mined my precious, nostalgic memories (Kabuki: Quantum Fighter, The Battle of Olympus, abhorrer for Fester's Quest).
I don't think anyone's mentioned Solar Jetman, though. A damning game but it has some interesting music and was quite fun to float around and explore a planet.
Fester's Quest certainly hasn't stood the test of time as a great game, but it was fun/playable at the time. Plus, it's part of the Blaster Master related field syllabus.
Other offbeat goodies:
Monster Party (which apparently never came out in Japan! *_* )
Iron Tank
Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle
Kid Niki
and of course, Faxanadu, that spoiled the entire Xanadu series for me. The other games can't touch the Fami one.
Twin Cobra (Too bad Sky Shark & Twin Eagle were not handled this well)
Golgo 13
Gradius
1942
Until now, I never knew they ported Galaxian to the NES (in Japan only on Famicom, I'd imagine)... but it was shown on the commercial for the Power Joy, which plays some different NES games. They even mentioned Pac-Land.

I think the C64 has just had its 20th birthday.
But I dont think the C64 had a better lineup than the NES.=\
Most of these have been mentioned already but I'll give my list anyway:
Metal Storm (everyone needs to play this, it's too damn good)
Crystalis
Star Tropics
The Guardian Legend
Gun-Nac
Zanac
Conquest of the Crystal Palace
The Magic of Scheherazade
Shatterhand
Shadow of the Ninja
Little Ninja Bros.
Clash at Demonhead
Vice: Project Doom
Journey to Silius
Faria
Rockin' Kats
Totally Rad
Whomp 'Em
Kickle Cubicle
Gargoyle's Quest 2
Willow
-Tubin' (throwing cans at things from an intertube was never so much fun)
-Ultima: Exodus (although i never got very far in the game, i was still in love with it)
there are some others, but i dont really remember my NES days.
oh, there was another game but i forgot the name. you played as a mech and walked around and shot things. you could also walk on the ceiling if you pushed Up+Jump. damn that game was fun. too bad i dont remember the title...

The C-64 had more titles than the NES and most of them were actually better on the C-64. The NES had the advantage of Nintendo's first party titles and a few exclusive (Rare titles) like Rad Racer, Pin-Bot and High Speed. Most of the titles you played on the NES, were also available on the C-64 (Gyruss, Ikari Warriors, Archon, Bard's Tale, Maniac Mansion and Infiltrator).
Super Mario was the game that made the NES a must buy for me. If it was'nt for this game, Zelda and Punch out!!!, I probably would have never owned an NES.

That's Metal Storm.

I didn't see it mentioned, a whenever I *do* mention it in these threads, I just get blank stares (of a non-literal nature, of course), but I remember liking Karnov as a kid (the conversion of the Data East arcade game, IIRC).
You're some sort of gypsy russian dude with a pot-belly, that shoots fireballs out of his mouth. It was sort of an action shooter like mega man.
