I've been excited about Kill Bill, a martial arts film that is being directed by Quentin Tarrantino, for quite some time. I even read part of the script. While seeing Gangs of New York today, I was thinking "how cool would it be if they showed the teaser for Kill Bill?"
The answer? "very".
Tarrantino + Uma + martial arts + the production skills of RZA = limitless potential.
The entire time the teaser was playing I had a huge grin on my face. I've never been this excited for a film.

I can't wait to see the trailer. I'm thinking with even the next two Matrix movies, X-men 2, The Hulk, and Return of the King coming up, Kill Bill could end up the best movie of next year.....nah, Return of the King will be better
Yeah, I'm very excited about Kill Bill project too. Cant wait to see the trailer. Hopefully it will get to the net in the next few days. I will post it here, once I find it.
Kill Bill looks very cool. Hard to believe Tarrantino's considered such a big-shot director and this is only his 4th film.

Whoa, I have to check out this trailer. Though I'm very skeptical when it comes to Tarantino and pure action flicks, it's been a while since I've heard from the guy and I'll definitely be interested in checking this one out. The last time I heard from Tarantino is when he brought over Wong Kar-Wai's Chungking Express (which is an excellent, excellent film) to the States. What exactly is RZA's role in this film? Is he overseeing the soundtrack?

Basically. I think he is tagged as the producer. One of the Metallica guys is also involved, Lars I think.
I remember reading this interview about RZA's visit with Quentin. They just talked about hong kong flicks and both amazed each other with their knowledge about the subject.

Not really.
Pulp Fiction cost about 7 million dollars to make, and was the 1st independent movie to make over 100 million dollars, and ended up at 212.9m worldwide. I suppose that, along with the Golden Palm award and such, make him respected and a big shot in some sense.
People seem to respect the Wachowski Brothers (2 films), PT Anderson (4 Films) and Wes Anderson (3 Films) as well.
Hollywood runs on the principle that a person can strike gold once, then make so-so films over and over trying to strike again.
Orsen Welles, John Singleton, Kevin Costner and so on, and so on.

He made a classic in Pulp Fiction and came pretty close with Reservoir Dogs. His only bad outing was Jackie Brown, and that movie just reeked of execs trying to push something out to cash in on the whole cult/Tarantino craze. Maybe I'm wrong. I don't know much about the movie outside of me not liking it.
Is this movie supposed to be a big joke or something? When I watched the trailer I got the impression that the entire movie is supposed to be this huge joke or spoof or something. Everything just looked absolutely ridiculous.

No its not a joke or a spoof. Its Quentin's homage to Kung-Fu and Exploitation films of the late 70s and early 80s.
Just an outrageous kung-fu action fest for all the lovers of the genre.
Really. Hmm... I dunno, something about like a biker jumping off his bike and cutting up people with a katana, and then the line somewhere else in the trailer (horribly paraphrased) "Watch Uma Thurman kick some ass" just made me think the movie was a spoof or something.
Well, in my opinion T is one of the finest directors and writers Hollywood has. He has an incredible knack for dialogue and all of his films are very good, yes I loved Jackie Brown.
Anyway, I expect a lot from this film and I think it will deliver. Unlike a lot of the films where we see Hollywood directors working with HK choreographers, T is different. He knows quite a lot about HK films and will most definitely make the film his own...I think anyway, since I haven't seen the trailer...

Tarantino definitely knows his HK films. Reservoir Dogs is basically a remake of Ringo Lam's City on Fire. The man knows how to benchmark.
Ichabod - thanks for the link! I'm printing this out and planning on giving it a good read over the weekend. Good stuff.
instant link to large version(RESPECT the jap chick with the ball and chain...if anybody in here has seen battle royale[staring beat takeshi], then they know whassup. Chigusa owns you for free).
Finally saw it, based on all the enthusiastic reports from AICN, I was really psyched about it, but looking at the trailer...god I don't know. Uma Thurman is a good actress and hot to boot, but she cannot fight worth shit...another case of using a big name not suited for a role....and some of the stuff looks too rehearsed and unnatural.
Still looking forward to seeing the what Tarantino brings to the table though.
Oh man...this seems like its going to be a whole 'nother type of Tarrantino film. This doesn't look like his normal stuff, I mean you can still see a hint of him in there though.
The amount of action goodness in that trailer is astounding...even David Carradine is in there...I can't wait to see all the cameos from kung fu legends...this movie just moved to top priority for me...
Yes indeed 2003 is going to be great--Shanghai Knights, Cradle 2 Grave, Bulletproof Monk, Kill Bill, Hero (atleast a DVD releases), other new Chan films (hopefully good this time!)...
Plus The Returner will be out on dvd this March. So Close HK dvd should be out around that time as well. Jackie Chan's Hignbingers should be out by Chinese New Year, and later on DVD.
Well, the only Tarantino film I've seen is Pulp Fiction, and that was a fucking classic movie. That movie has so much quoteable stuff, and not just the "I'm sorry, did I break your concentration?" line from Sam. I'm expecting a "killer"[/horriblepun] movie from him. Besides, Uma's just too damn hot to pass up. I love her suit; it's the same yellow track suit that Bruce Lee wore in Game of Death.

Yes, but will the Returner have English subs, I hope so...So Close I will be getting once the DVD is released...there's also a new one called Infernal Affairs with Andy Lau and Tony Leung that looks good and a new Sammo Hung, but that just seemed to disappear...I think it was called Hidden Enforcers or something like that...
Overall, the HK industry is disappearing...it's sad really...

Yes, Japanese R2 dvd of Returner(coming out March 7th), will have subtitles(or so the description says). There will be 2 versions, Deluxe and Regular. I have Deluxe on pre-order from Cdjapan, and it quite expensive($60 with shipping), but will come with all kinds of goodies.
I ordered So Close vcd last week from YesAsia, and dvd supposed to come out by the end of February or early March. I also ordered New Option dvd(what the heck, I have all other Option movies now )
Internal Affairs is more of an crime/thriller/drama, but it gets alot of praise. Its coming to dvd February 10th, I think.
Plus Hero dvd supposed to be released Feb 20th.
Hidden Enforcers is Sammo Hung shot to video quicky. Not sure if its even good.
For those of you who enjoy Tarentino films, you might want to hunt down some of Elmore Leonard's novels. Tarentino gets alot of his inspiration--among others--from his books.
Jackie Brown was actually a novel called Rum Punch, and was superior to the movie in every way.
Recommendations: Swag, Pronto, Riding the Rap, Bandits, Glitz and Cuba Libre. All were written by Leonard, and are all Best Sellers. If you like criminals with a ton of personality, and good guys who aren't always sure they're good, check out Elmore Leonard.
Quentin Tarantino's new movie Kill Bill is so long, the filmmaker now plans to turn it into two separate films. The film, starring Uma Thurman, Daryl Hannah, Vivica A. Fox and Lucy Liu, was originally scheduled to hit American cinemas screens in October, and now it is expected that the second part will be released just weeks later. David Carradine, who stars in the drama says, "Shooting has been going on so long - with Quentin continuing to write scenes, that plans are afoot to turn Kill Bill into two 90-minute features that would be released within five weeks of each other. I probably shouldn't be saying this, but what the hell - they can't fire me." He adds, "It's a brilliant marketing plan. The first film would end with a cliffhanger, so that everyone would want to see the second half." Carradine, who landed his role in the flick after Warren Beatty dropped out, is expecting to go before cameras again to shoot extra scenes for the movies.
If true, this could be pretty damn cool.

Your welcome
Weren't there other recent Hollywood films based on his books? Like a Stallone one and another one I'm blanking on? Yeah, I've wanted to read his stuff and it's on my ever-increasing list of authors to get to...
First time I saw it: motorcycles? Uma Thurman? Matrial arts? Lucy Liu? Monks? What the hell is going on? Ok, I need to read more about this.
Second time I watched it: motorcycles? Uma Thurman? Matrial arts? Lucy Liu? Monks? What the hell is going on? Ok, this looks quite interesting. Greatly looking forward to it.
It looks gorgeous, not to mention. The scene in the snow with Uma Thurman and Lucy Liu looks really nice, in particular.
Never saw any of Tarantino's stuff, although I really want to see Pulp Fiction ASAP.
Should be worth the wait.
WhiteFolks: Chigusa! Damn, I was scratching my head tring to figure out where I saw that girl with the ball and chain. And I just rewatched BR last night, too.
