The PSO loading screen had a pretty trippy tunnel effect. If you looked at the center, it was like you were warping into the level, or maybe I just had too many brews.

Since the game loads like hell ..with loading times reaching a couple of minutes (!!) what the developers did was put a ring of white balls that you can play with.. um..yea. You can twist them around and other stuff.. keeps you pretty busy while going insane at the same time.

HOLY SHEEP DIP! I didn't know I was the only one who know about that!
I'll have to get the game back again just to see that, and that mini-game. Maybe the load time is better through an emu? who knows.

The loading screens in the Namco Museum games for PSX were pretty cool. I did the ole' loading screen trick with Pac-Man, making him dash back and forth constantly. Can't beat the "loading screens" in Ridge Racer and Tekken, nothing says loading screen loving like a quick shooter in-between fighting and racing.

I've changed my mind about Korian. Anyone that can piss off so many people so easily is awesome. You people are suckers, playing right into his evil yellow hands.
I like the games where the character is taking an elevator or some other "game reason" for the delay. Aliens vs. Predator for the Jaguar comes to mind.
I liked how SFA3 on PSX showed different pieces of character art during load screens. SOTN's load screen is fun to play with. Einhander has a pretty cool "countdown" load screen when you start the game, and the other loading screens look nice too. The same goes for Front Mission 3...I just like watching that little bar go through its animation.

I'll second that. The game's whole presentation was slick as hell.

Which is funny, because the Jaguar was a cart-based system.

A couple of SNES games also had loading. Street Fighter Alpha 2 being the most notable user of it. How the hell they even got that game on the SNES is a mystery to me.

From what I hear, Quake 1 (N64) had loading times.

Soul Reaver on DC.
Are you implying that you like the loading screen because it was nonexistant? Well, the game does actually have a loading screen, and sometimes, the game will freeze and you'll see the word "SPOOLING" pop up. I'll tell you this, the PSX version's title screen is damn cool, too bad they made the DC's static.

The special chip used in the cartridge was a compression chip. Hardware compression is much better than software, or something to that effect. A couple of other games did this. Star Ocean used the same chip, and Lord of Elemental along with Oshaberi Parodius used a different one. I've always been curious about how big the games would be without compression~
I've never played/heard of any of those, so I'll stay stunned at SFA 2. I figured it had to be compressed, but still... amazing feat for the technology.

Galactic Attack's loading screen isn't bad... basically, it's the explosion of the boss you just defeated. The next stage is being surreptitiously loaded in during all that conflagration.
I guess I'd have to agree with The Mark of Kri, but I'm not sure that it actually counts as a loading screen. It seems to me like a style choice for presenting the story. I imagine the levels actually load pretty quickly.
