Gamers.com updated and got the article from OPM along with some shots, it looks promising especially with Melbourne house developing it. I also happen to like the cartoon its based on too :P

That Transformers Armada animated series on Cartoon Network really sucks, doesn't it? In fact, we'd call it damn near unwatchable. So, what reason could we possibly have to be excited about Atari's game based on the latest Transformers toy line?
Beyond the fact that Transform-ers Armada marks the console debut of Autobots waging their battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons, we get the feeling developer Melbourne House has the right idea for the tone of its game. According to Andrew Carter, Melbourne's VP of development, the cartoon is just a starting point. "We evolve it into what works best for the gaming medium," he says, "which, in the case of PS2 means a bit tougher and more realistic than the style seen in the cartoon--and definitely more intense. Our Transformers are ready to kick Decepticon ass."
As die-hard fans know, Armada shares much in common with the original Transformers mythos--though a big difference is the inclusion of Mini-cons, a third robot race with the power to enhance the strength of Autobots and Decepticons. As in the cartoon and comic, the side in the game that possesses the Mini-cons is the side with the advantage. You control Optimus Prime, Hotshot, or Red Alert, and you'll collect 50-plus Mini-cons to power up your stats or gain useful items. At the same time, a sidekick Mini-con fights alongside your Autobot while you face hordes of Decepticlones, the evil robot force that's your primary opposition (when you aren't taking on Megatron or other Decepticon officers, that is).
And what would a Transformers game be without transforming? Most of your battling occurs in robot form, but Armada lets you change shape whenever you feel the need.
Carter describes Armada's gameplay as the exploration and platforming of Ratchet & Clank combined with the advanced A.I. and heavy-duty combat of Halo. "The emphasis is on shooting and combat," he says, "and on the exploration of vast, open game worlds."
More than meets the eye? We'll know by the game's spring 2004 release.

This sounds odd/interesting. The gameplay description was what I was expecting I guess. Plus the game just looks weird in terms of what they are doing. It looks like they are running around ala a platformer, but it does not look like they should be. I dunno, this could really blow, or be an interesting new way to make a Action platformer.
I've changed my mind about Korian. Anyone that can piss off so many people so easily is awesome. You people are suckers, playing right into his evil yellow hands.
I think it looks great. Is it PS2 exclusive, or multi-platform? I only saw PS2 mentioned in the article.
Its PS2 exclusive for now I suppose.

It would be nice for cel shading maybe something to a Z.O.E 2nd Runner effect but I think this still looks good. These are some early shots so I'm sure theres still work being done on it. I wish there more autobots to play as though like Thrust and Jetfire.

Optimus = Pimp. Armada has the best Transformer designs the franchise has ever known.

So what you're saying is that a regular, run-of-the-mill hot rod is bigger than your average tree?!
No. Not even if it happens to transform into a friggin' robot. G1 was notorious for totally distorting the dimentions of the transformers, and I'm not even talking about Soundwave. They transform from hulking robots, into normal sized vehicles, and there's something clearly wrong with it. Haven't you ever noticed that if they maintained their dimentions when they transform into the vehicle, no average size human would ever be able to see over the dash?! Armada does a great job of keeping the dimentions of the Transformers constent no matter what form they're in, but sadly, this makes for not-so-larger-than-life robot modes.

But what the heck is it going to play like? None of those look like actual gameplay screens.
And there's a G1 game coming from the makers of the Super Robot Wars series.

Ugh! Dear God no. I don't like the Armada characters at all...
I have to give the best design award to Robots in Disguise for Optimus, Scourge (full size black Optimus), Prowl, X-Brawn, and Sideburn. X-Brawn especially. That is one baddass toy. I have a feeling that Alternators will soon take the title though,
I always wanted to buy a second Scorge and re-paint him like a G1 Optimus.... I should get around to doing that before Scorge prices take off (if they haven't already).
For some strange reason I find the smaller $10 Optimus to be a better toy than the full size Optimus (Armada line here). I guess the smaller one is slighty more posable.

I agree, although big Prime is full of electronical gadgets such as LED's, sounds and the auto-transformation of the trailer. Neat-o!
My full size Prime remains combined with Jetfire pretty much full time since I turn to my smaller Prime for any actual "Optimus Priming" that has to be done.

That's awesome!

I think all the designs in Armada rock. There's about one more you you can play as who hasn't been shown it the robocop looking ambulance/repair guy I forgot his name though -_-

The reason the Japanese version would have more metal parts is exactly because of #3.
Damnit! I wish some one would get the brilliant idea to manufacture toys for adults so these "child safety" laws would gum up my habbit!
$50 is a bit much . . . but that's never stopped me. When does it hit?
Holy crap! I just noticed the best of the best Decepticon is getting a re-release! Astro-Train. He should have succeded Megs. Galvatorn wouldn't have had anything on him.

Diecast is expensive as hell. The American version will cost 20, and I will be satsified with that. One drop of the Japanese one and you are out of a fifty dollar investment. Japanese one is coming out pretty soon, and the American on early next year.
Oh yeah, if importing toys, I recommend bigbadtoystore.com
I think it's already out.... but I'm having them hold onto it until DDR is released so I only pay for shipping once.
The real fun will begin when that amazing looking aniversery edition Optimus Prime goes on sale. I demand that Megatron, Prowl, and Starscream get the same treatment!

It doesn't look like the deceptions aren't going to be alternated, its all autotbots according to the story.
I don't even think that Optimus is part of the Alternators line, is he? I think he's just a stand-alone thing.
Alternators look like they will be based on real car licenses. Prime looks like they set out to make him as G1 cartoon accurate as possible. That's what I want to see for Prowl, Starscream, and Megatron. The G1 cartoon accurate thing.
