Are there any Shanghai ("Mahjong Solitaire") games released in the U.S.?
Actually, my girlfriend asked me to post this question. She recently downloaded a Mahjong game for her cell phone and is addicted to it. She's wondering if there was ever a U.S. release of a Mahjong game on any console? I don't recall one. I'm sure there must be plenty for the PC...

Are you talking about Mahjong? The only US version released that I can think of was one in Ultimate Brain Games for the GBA.
I knew I was misspelling it...I'll fix that. GBA? Thanks.

A lot of bars have multi-arcade machines with things like trivia and such on them, and I've seen Mahjong on a few of them. If you have a truck and a crowbar, anyway.
[edit] I think there was one on Saturn, a friend of mine has it.
Are we talking about mahjong or Shanghai? The former is a rummy-like multiplayer game, the latter is a solo tile-matching game that's been cloned many times over. Shanghai has been ported to many consoles, and it should be pretty easy to find. I don't know of any mahjong games for consoles released in the US, but I think there's a few for PC.
Hong Kong Mahjong is one of the most popular PC ones: http://www.ninedragons.com/ There are probably thousands of Japanese console mahjong games, but the only US release I know of is Super Real Mahjong on the Saturn.
And...we sell them too. All we fucking sell is Mahjong and Deer Hunter..
NO!
Mahjong:
Shanghai:
Shanghai is played with Mahjong tiles, and is often called or even LABELED as Mahjong, but it most certainly isn't. Its like calling somebody playing solitaire a Poker player because he/she is using poker cards (though they are technically called "playing" cards now). This is a huge pet peeve of mine if you guys haven't noticed...
So which is it Dolemite, Mahjong or Shanghai? It would help if you want good suggestions...

Nippon Ichi released Marl Jong for the J-PS1... too bad it's not a US release.

GAAAHHHHH, this is complicated...shit, the lengths I go to to keep my woman happy...
Well, the name on the title screen of the game is Mahjong, but from what I've seen it's a solo tile matching game, and the screen matches the Shanghai pics you posted so I'll assume maybe it's a mis-titled version of Shanghai.
Just talked to her on the phone, and she said it's titled "Mahjong Solitare", so I guess that it's indeed Shanghai.
Thank you guys for your help.

My favorite console Shanghai game is still Shanghai for the SMS. I know there are more "advanced" versions but there is something really classic about this game. Plus it even has a two player mode!
There are a bunch, including the one released for Saturn. Go to Gamefaqs and look up Shanghai or Mahjong. If it is released in the US, it is almost 100% guaranteed to be Shanghai.
PS: There are a god-damn hojillion Shanghai games for PC, and tons of them are free downloads. Just look up Mahjong in google and download them all! (or just some)
A GameFAQs search of "Shanghai" listed about 50 games. I would post the results of the search here, but some of the entries might be a bit suspect, as their server move has left many games on the wrong systems.
Searches for Saturn Shanghai games and PlayStation Shanghai games turned up nothing of note, barring the "Shanghai: True Valor" (PSX) ones being for Silent Hill, which is a bit humorous.

Knowledge is power, entertainment is temporary.
She went to Yahoo and found some downloadable PC Shanghai games there.
You...you guys are just the best. *sniff*

As a lifelong Mahjong player, it irks me when people mix up Shanghai with the real deal. It's such a great game that it's a shame more people don't play it.
Someday I'll get one of those Saturn Mahjong games profiled in the GameGO! feature.

*scratches head* I dunno, I learned the game from my grandfather and I'm guessing he picked up the game when he went to school in Hawaii and was stationed there in WWII, but... I think we played by Chinese rules, judging by my reaction to the GameGO! feature.
