Your favorite music/rhythm video game of all time and why
Taiko Drum Master for PS2
Decent song selection, it's easy enough to be fun, but not hard enough to be frustrating. Oh yea.. I also like the little doggies with the bonets on their head.

Space Channel 5 Part 2 - The music, spot-on timing, and the many many variations of music layering / visual effects depending on how well you do make it a fantastic sequel, and an awesome game on its own merits. Guitar de shoubu!
Crazy controller rhythm game:
Taiko Drum Master
Hey, a rhythm game that you can break out for fun when you have normals over, and not have them quit in disgust from a) having to play the same 3 or 4 beginner-level songs over and over again, or b) watching you act like you're the freakin' king of the universe as you show them up and thereby totally annoy the fuck out of them! Innovative!
Gitaroo Man hands down. I've been playing it for almost 3 years now and it hasn't gotten old yet.
Takio is fun but it's too easy to call the best ever. But it is the best one to get chicks who never play games to play at a party, they love games that they can do good at.
Taiko was the worst music game until Donkey Konga came out.
Uhhh...I don't have a favorite anymore because I stopped playing these things a while back. So if I had to pick, it would either be Pop'n Music 11 or Pump it Up Extra with Beatmania III: The Final and DDR 3rd Mix Korean Ver.2 being runners up.
uh oh...mr "i hate pump cause it's gay" is now a fan? when the shit did this happen?
Since...forever? I think you might have me confused with the rest of SoCal. I'm the one that actually likes Pump. Granted, everything past Extra mix is shit (See: Anything remotely dancable replaced with Pink, Get the Party Started) but it's still a good game.
Because "it's what started it all" (in terms of arcade music games and non-simonsays gameplay at least) and dumb shit like that counts a lot for me, personally.
Gitaroon Man and UmJammer Lammy for me, since the music in the former is awesome, and the beats in the latter have me dancing when I hear them. Space Channel 5 has simply awesome music, but I don't dig the play as much as other games.

Space Channel 5, easily. DDR holds a special place for me too, although I suck at it. I also really like Takio Drum Master and Technic Beat. Technic Beat is just really addicting.
Don't typically like music games (memorization ain't my bag), but I still get Bust-a-Groove's Kitty-N theme on random play in Winamp sometimes.

hahahahaha
yeah, extra mode = the shit. every single good song ever + every single good mode ever.
fuck all this new wave(ie..take on me), super poppy techno, or ddr super stepstep-revolution bullshit level layouts.
i mean, i KNOW they had to try and localize it...but do i really need a britney spears cover song on my dancing game?
Parappa, Umjammer and Space Channel 5 Part 2 are the ones I enjoyed the most because of their weirdness factor. I have a certain nostalgia for Break Dance on the C64 although the game annoys me.
Samba De Amigo, if I'd ever break down and buy some maracas... Until then, Space Channel 5. The first one, that is. The one without all that gay singing crap...

IBTN.
Mine is either Pop'n Music anything or 3rd Kolean VER2. Even to this day if I hear one song from that mix I squeal with delight, and I hate anything that has to do with "music" and "games" coming together.
The only one I bother playing is DDR-whatever-mix. Everything else is just a variation of the button-pushing found in other genres, but without any violence or gameplay or anything. DDR on the other hand can be physically demanding, and actual exercise if you play long/hard enough. I gotta respect that, even if half the songs on every mix I've played are trash.
