The Boomtown Rats
After years of being out of print, The Boomtown Rats full catalogue has been re-mastered and is being re-released on February 8th.
Sample:
Mary of the 4th Form
About the band:
Bob Geldof, vocals;
Johnnie Moylett (aka Johnnie Fingers), keyboard;
Gerry Cott (guitar);
Garry Roberts, guitar;
Patrick Cusack, aka Pete "Briquette";
Simon Crowe, drums;
The Boomtown Rats were the first band termed "New Wave"
Their first 10 singles charted in the British Top 40, 9 of those singles went Top 15, and two went all the way to number 1.
They were the first Irish band of the era to get to the top of the charts.
And the first band of their type to be on Top of the Pops.
Capitol Radio named them "Most Promising Group of the Year" and their debut LP won "Best Album of the Year" for 1977.
Their only successful single in the States got them banned from radio because the song ("I Don't Like Mondays") was about Brenda Spencer and her response to the question asked by reporters, 'Why'd you do it?'
About Bob Geldof:
He was Pink in The Wall.
He's responsible for "Do They Know It's Christmas?" and because of it, kicked off the whole '80s rock star "Aid" (Band, Live, Farm ...) period.
Some blame him for Michael Hutchence (INXS) death; seriously
He co-created the original British tv show "Survivor"
You can order the CDs here.
The first 3 albums are highly recommended. And I really love
Mondo Bongo as well.

I was watching one of the SCTV DVDs and they had The Boomtown Rats as a musical guest. I laughed so hard that I literally cried. It was the most amazing (pathetic) performance I've ever seen.

It's not your guys' fault that you don't know greatness when you see and hear it. I kind of feel sorry for you.

You're right, they are great. Like I said, I literally cried with laughter. Not many things can do that to me.
