I'm absolutely expecting it to come here. Racing games usually aren't left in Japan and this is way too big of a franchise to pass up.
Two things:
1) The Namcam avatars while racing are a GREAT idea. I love it.
2) The game looks nothing like MK: Double Trash, so it may actually be a return to what made the series good. Thank you Namco, this franchise needed saving with a quickness.

It could be an expensive-ass machine like the F-Zero AX one that no arcade ever will pick up in the US =(
I'm still bitter about that.

Those faces really, really scare me. Plus, it means that i couldn't use Peach without looking like a big weirdo. But it looks like you can use Bob-omb so it's all fine in the end.
Sweet, the more Mario Kart games the better. Hey, now we have an excuse to drag a girl into an arcade ^_^
I just read that website and I'm more excited about Taiko no Tatsujin #7
My god I love this game. It's so addicting because the songs start out easy, but man once you put it on the higher difficulties it's really really hard!
As dismal as arcades are, this totally seems like something that would be brought here in some capacity. Its mario, I have to belive a big arcade place like Game Works, or some shit would grab that thing becauses its a lock to get plenty of tokens.
I just got done reading a section of The Ultimate History of Videogames where (I forget specifically what company) tried to put a camera on an arcade machine to put people's faces in the game. When they put it out to test some guy got up on a stool and dropped trou and that was the end of that.
I wonder how long until this game sees the "YOU" image as a penis wearing a hat and moustache.

It was the game that became Journey when they added the band in later. I was thinking of that and figured they would remove the camera. Namco did release an arcade game with the camera feature before called Gunmen Wars but it was left in Japan.
Outrun 2 machines appeared at two theaters near me. I think if that can make it here, Mario Kart will be a cinch. I fully expect there to be a row of 6-10 of these in every Dave & Buster's or Jillian's or what have you.

There's an untranslated Gunmen Wars at Great America theme park in Santa Clara, CA, but it doesn't have the camera.

That would certainly be ironic, for Namco to save one Nintendo series right after trashing another.

As much as the new SF isn't ideal... it's like everyone forgot how much worse Rare trashed it before Namco got around to it. Even thought it still should be much better, it could be a whole lot worse.
No more shitty "double dash" action!? No more shit Mario characters?! COINS!?
Fuck ya! This is the Mario Kart that should have been on Gamecube! (I know others said that, but I'm jumping out of my skin here in excitement) I can't wait to play this in the arcade and on the unavoidble GC port. ^_^ I love you, Namco!!
Let's see if I can make this post in the traditional TNL fashion, and in record time:
1) Piss over Nintendo's effort on Nintendo's franchise.
2) Praise 3rd party for 'doing it right' without even playing the damn thing.
3) Insert dry wit when needed.
4) Rinse, repeat.
Now in all honesty...WOW. Is thing on Triforce? If it is, wouldn't a home port be easy? And then you could have online racing...if Nintendo supported it.
*smacks forehead*
Ah well; I know plenty of arcades around here that would pick it up, if only one machine.

I disagree. It looks OK, but for this generation it looks a bit dated. Low res textures, low poly models, no dynamic lighting. What is saving it is amazing art direction, as in WoW. It looks good, but I'm far from impressed.
Looks good, and I have yet to like any of the Mario Kart Racing games for the console thus far. Maybe this will be the first one if it gets a GCN port.

Anyone thinking of importing a cabinet? It's the first thing my friend said when he saw the pics. I argued that the steering wheel would probably be harder to keep in shape than some buttons and a couple sticks, he said it wasn't that bad.

I'll never see this. Unless they port it onto a home system, but even then I still might never see it unless they decided to go online with it like they should. Shame, really.

Yeah, but that was Rare. Namco's was more of a blind-siding to many because they normally put out good products.
Well, as far as a comparision goes: They normally put out products. Period.
Well Star Fox Assault was in development hell for a while it seems, so I am not too suprised that it turned out merely OK and not great.
Mario Kart GP however just kind of appeared and was made in secret (more games need to go this route). And it looks really great, sure the graphics arn't super flashy but they are clean and look nice. Plus it looks really fun and thats what matters.
Me and some friends were playing some Multplayer racing in DD today, it was quite fun. Made me really want this game even more so.
mutiplayer is always fun, but did you play the single player mode? it's shitter than shit, and this is coming out of an MK fan. let's just say the AI will piss the living fuck out of you, it got to the point where i almost(and i'm seriouse about this) smashed the MK: DD disk into pieces and threw it in the garbage.

Played it through many many times, unlocked everything. Also did several of the Master time trials as well. I enjoyed it a lot.
