Joust vs Balloon Fight

Which do you like more? Williams' Joust or Nintendo's Balloon Fight?

Well, I played Joust and it was cool at the time, but once Balloon Fight came into the mix, there was no looking back. I loved that game a lot! Heh, Burg picked the GBC version awhile back...maybe I should offer to trade with him.

Balloon Fight, most definitely. That screenshot alone brought back a lot of memories and it may have been the first game I've ever played.

Hehe...Incidentally, I think Joust was the first game I ever played.
They had the cabinet at the club house of the apartments I used to live at when I was about five. I sucked at it because I really had no idea how to play it.

I've never played Balloon Fight, so my vote goes for Joust.

Edit - Actually, I think I've played the NES port of Balloon Fight. Is it faithful to the arcade version?

The arcade version of Balloon Fight is basically identical to the NES one.

as chibi nappa said in my old "greatest game ever made" poll:

'balloon fight. It's like joust, only fun.'

something like that. I loved one, never really got into the other.

I voted for Joust. Balloon Fight is a very worthy Joust-clone but it's not quite as cool.

I still don't. I think. Actually, the last time I tried it I might've actually managed to hurt something, but I simply never sat down adn tried to figure out how it works.

You bounce on top of the others to hurt them, right?

Joust! It's a classic and an early arcade favourite of mine.

Balloon Fight never interested me and I didn't even realise it was held in such high regard by others.

Balloon Fight all the way! It takes the main idea of Joust, and makes it 3 million times better. Balloon Fight controlls better, looks better, smells better, sounds better, just plain IS better then Joust. Joust is very boring, Balloon Fight is very exciting. With the flippers, varrying stages, and the awesome added bonus of "Balloon Fight" on the NES version, it just makes Joust look stupid.

Joust is one of the greatest pure gameplay schemes ever put together.

Perhaps I wasn't forceful enough in my earlier post:

Anyone who thinks Balloon Fight is better than Joust, or that Joust is "boring", is a gaming retard.

You're daft, man. Joust may have come first, but it has the most squirrelly control of any game I've ever played. Balloon Fight is better looking and a lot more fun to play.

Not only is Balloon Fight better, but Joust sucks on its own merit. Don't let your sentimentality fool you!

Both games are classics in their own right, but at the end of the day when I go to reach for a warm joystick, my hands will wrap comfortably around the one protruding from the Baloon Fight machine.
