(heh, this is kind of a test thread for the new description function due to all those 'quirky' titles that have been fluttering as of late).
In any case, what are your impressions of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance title. It should be a much more exciting package now that we finally get to play with Snake throughout the entire game - the way it was MEANT to be!
Well, all the interesting new additions, the VR missions, ability to play as Snake or Raiden through the whole quest, new cheats and suprises to be implemented. I really can't wait to get my hands on it.
Seeing as how its a re-release, I'm hoping Konami won't gouge X-Box gamer's with a full $50 price tag, and release it at a more reasonable sum like $40 or even $30, but I know better by this point
You will be able to play as Snake all the way through? I may actually get it, then. I was unimpressed with MGS2 for PS2 visually, looked like the first one running in enhanced mode (At least the demo did).
In related news, in attempts to move stock of PSX and PS2 games, retailers in Fairbanks, Alaska have started bundling a PSX game with a PS2 game, thinking gamers might not be able to resist two games for the price of one. If you buy MGS2, you also get Miss Spider's Tea Party for the PSX! What a deal!
Ya. I like that now we'll get to see a whole new set of story twists, things which we think we will know what will happen...and then realize - we don't!
*checks calendar*
Damn, it's not out yet!!!! Hurry up KONAMI!

Orochi: Yes, "I" have indeed returned, but as you probably know, I've changed over the summer. No more blatant(read:idiotic)fanboy-ism from me, as evident by my last few posts).
Bahn: .......I will be a good little boy from now on,k?........J/K Bahn.
As for the subject at hand: it seems like a good purchase from non-ps2 owning fans of the first, or those who loved the original MGS2 and want all the extras. Don't be fooled though; besides some new dialogue, the core story remains the same(SPOILER ALERT!!: Which means the ending is a lame tourist reel of Manhattan still, and the plot near the ending is still WAY out of wack, convoluted, and hard to understand), it's just gameplay that will get the overhaul. Kojima could've taken this chance to fix some of the story, but alas, the dollar(x 1,000,000) smelled better than some gamer begging for a re-write, so all we get is a prettied up MGS:VR Missions for PS2, and Xbox. Since I'm getting an Xbox for Christmas, I'll probably pick it up, but it's not something I'll go crazy for.
Dude... Uh... Did you just say some nto so nice things about MGS2?
Ladies and gentlemen, do not drink any of the Kool Aide he brought as a peace offering. It is obviously laced with cyanide, as the above tactics prove hes here to gain our trust and destory TNL from the inside...
::Click_Sitck drops::
Well, SOMEONE was greedy... Oh well, no loss.
... So, yeah. I think I really do need some rest. And a sandwich wouldnt hurt, either.

Nope, that was an honest-to-God true statement. As I've said before, I've changed, whether you would like to accept that or not. No more obsessing over "that game", or any one game for that matter. Now, only two days since I came back, people are asking me for help in games and impressions, etc. I'm sure if I had said,"SMS is a good game, but it would've been better if Kojima made it!!!", nobody would take anything I said with a grain of salt(like before). I'm not just doing it to gain respect, but to have a lot more fun at a message board I love; a cohesive, gaming-filled time. And yes, still don't drink that Kool-Aide. And yes, MGS2 was immensily flawed(especially in the second half). Just for pretence, I'll state the good and the bad about MGS2:
THE BAD
1)Graphical glitches
2)Floaty collision
3)Flawed Story-line
4)Disgusting love sub-plot
5)Some characters lacked depth
6)Convoluted,unrewarding ending
7)Anti-climactic end boss fight
8)Offers nothing really new
9)Barely any replay-value
10)Satisfactory facial expressions
11)Some washed-out poly textures
12)Uninteresting weapon arsenal
13)Jokes are hit-and-miss
14)Idiotic sub-plots hold no value
15)Total murder of past characters
16)Snake's mullet(^_^)
THE GOOD:
1)Nice gameplay
2)Nice voice acting
3)Nice graphics.
Frankly, I'm thinking of selling it, or putting it towards Splinter Cell, when I get an Xbox for Christmas.SC looks much better, the story sounds much better, and the only ample competition it has is a barely(read: poorly with quick cash in mind)done redux of a flawed game. No thanks,Kojima.
I think it comes out in November for the Xbox, then early 2003 for PS2 and Windows. I'm sure it'll be a good game, but not worth 50$ for VR Missions and such.
Wow, you're selling your MGS2? Damn, no need to get rid of everything related to MGS! I like MGS2 and all, it's just how you carry yourself about it. And although the ending didn't make sense, I still love MGS2. :hugs MGS2 DVD case:
I'm not sure if I'll be getting an Xbox *just* for MGS2:Substance... an upgraded MGS2 is not a killer app for me. *sigh* MS will just have to do better to bait me into getting an Xbox...
Kojima is a genius. I mean that in a bad way. He really knows how to cash in. First MGS2 with all the shit in it that people weren't complaining about cause they didn't know what to expect. From all the scenes he showed from MGS2 before it was released, it was Snake all the way. You see one scene of Raiden and Kojima made it seem that you were playing Snake and just meeting him there. Yet when people actually played the game they got quite a suprise once they finished the Tanker mission. Sly motherfucker. So now, we have on our hands a cash-milking rerelease of a game that was a cash-milking sequel. It was a cash milking sequel because it's called MGS2. Note the S. It stands for Snake. You assume that Snake will be the main character. Well...in a way he is...in a strict non-playable, non-main characterish way after a quarter of the game is finished.
MGS2 was a great game, despite the wonky story. I thought it looked sharp and animated smoothly, and was generally fun to play. Substance should be more of the same goodness. It's not just the VR missions, the mini-games or the ability to play as Snake. There are also supposed to be 5 new "Snake Stories" that are complete (if somewhat short) games in their own right. Oh yeah, you can play as the Ninja, too. Sounds like $40 or $50 well spent to me.
I didn't mind Raiden(he's a rookie, after all), and the parts with the Metal Gear Rays(kickass boss fight) and beating up the "legendary" Snake were awesome.
What I did mind, however, was the entire last part of the game, in which the story became such a jumbled, convulted mess that the ending and the "cliffhanger" were lackluster. Substance better fix this.

If I get Substance, it will be only for the VR Missions and 'Snakes Tales' or whatever those 5 little side games are. I doubt they're fixing up the main game so that it's anything more than sticking Snake in R's place.
