Square Enix has released some more information and screen shots for the new addition to its action-adventure series featuring Slime, the prolific mascot of the Dragon Quest franchise. Thus far, The Slime has been the protagonist of two Dragon Quest spinoffs, the first Slime MoriMori Dragon Quest (released only on the Japanese Game Boy Advance) and, two years later, Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime, which was localized in the United States for the DS. Rocket Slime was one of my most-loved DS games, so count me among those hoping to see a localized version of Slime Mori Mori Dragon Quest 3 Daikaizoku to Shippodan.
In this game, players will explore the ocean and wreak havoc on enemy ships that cross their path. As players travel the world and collect spoils from their victories, they'll be able to customize the ship with the parts picked up along the way. With the ability to mix and match parts in a number of combinations, every ship can have an original design.
Battling involves carrying material back and forth across the deck to load cannons with in order to get critical hits on the enemy. This will all be done on the bottom screen while the top screen shows what's happening in a third-person view, as well as stats like HP. Extra points are given when bullets are caught and thrown back at the enemy. When a rope is strung between the boats, players can attempt to cross it in order to directly destroy the heart of the ship.
Though nothing official has been said on whether or not the game will be localized for the States, we can hope its predecessor did well enough to bring us the sequel. The game will support online communication over Nintendo Wi-Fi, StreetPass, and 3D graphics. The Japanese release is set for winter 2011.
