The B-Side 2006: Issue 1

It's a new year, and you know what that means... The return of The B-Side!

On the Radar

Going into 2006, I've got my eyes set on several games, but not surprisingly, they're all for my trusty Nintendo DS. Considering I'm still in the thick of my Wi-Fi Connection high, it's only natural that some of the upcoming Wi-Fi enabled games on the DS have caught my attention, and will be mine. Oh yes, they will be mine.

First up on the horizon is the month of Feburary where we'll be seeing the release of Resident Evil: Deadly Silence. Now mind you, there is no Wi-Fi Connection component to this remake of the PlayStation classic... But it does have a bit of multiplayer thrown into the mix for good measure. I know that my best friend and I will be playing this A LOT, as we're both big RE fans. Also of note is the addition of a more being dubbed "rebirth" which adds several DS-centric touches like sections where you have to fend off enemies with your combat knife; you swipe with your stylus to swing it. And I've just got to say, a lot of pundits seem to get their jollies by shitting all over this title, saying how dare Capcom for wasting an RE on the DS, but hey, PSP fanboys, guess what? We're getting an RE first. Suck it down!

March, by far, is the month that is delivering the most in terms of cool new DS games that do have Wi-Fi Connection capabilities. We've got the recently announced Tetris DS, which is said to include several levels inspired by NES classics like Super Mario Bros. 3 and the Legend of Zelda. And then we have the much anticipated Metroid Prime: Hunters, which we got our first taste of with the "First Hunt" demo that came packaged with the DS when it launched back in November of 2004. This game was delayed, true, but the delay was for the addition of Wi-Fi, and I'm okay with that. I'll be picking it up for sure.

April still remains the rumored release of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Nintendo GameCube. Nintendo still hasn't confirmed nor denied these rumors, so fellow optimists unite! Hope that the buzz is true, and Twilight Princess will be pulling a Wind Waker.

The biggest of the upcoming releases is also one that remains a big rumor at this particular moment; the Nintendo Revolution. As I reported, the buzz is that the next Nintendo system will be launching right around the time of its debut at E3 2006. I'm still not sure if there's any truth to it, but if there is, you heard it first from Got-Next.

In Regards To...

...people who play Mario Kart DS and drop when you're losing. You need to stop being sissies, suck it up and finish the race. At this point, I think I've only won a single set of races -- out of 15 to 20 -- and I'll still finish even if I have no chance (like against a bunch of dirty, cheating snakers). My poor sport award goes to the following WFC players (listed by their nicknames): Jordyn, unclemic24, and freek.

...NetGear and their horribly fickle wireless routers. Jesus, guys! Will you please stop avoiding an issue and work on finding a solution? You're losing customers fast, and believe me, if I had the money to waste on a new router, I'd have thrown out my NetGear in favor of one that works well with Nintendo Wi-Fi.

Curtain Call

So there you have it... We've reached the end of the first 2006 edition of the B-Side. I was going to put in some links to stuff like my section from Got-Next's 2005 Year in Review, but it's not up just yet. I'll definitely be posting an update to let you guys know when it is!

Also, if you're a Nintendo DS owner with Mario Kart DS, and you play on the Wi-Fi Connection, shoot me a message! I'm always looking for new people to race with. I will do my best to help with the whole DMZ setup that I mention in my page greeting. It sounds complex, but it's really like a two-minute tweak.

A belated Happy New Year to everyone!

'Til next time, feel the wrath of Shao Kahn!
