Games. Lots of 'em. What more could you need?

Just like that, summer is at an end. Bye summer, we'll miss you.

See all these games down there? There's lots of good stuff, like Pump It Up, Radiata Stories, a whole host of hockey titles, and even the spiritual successor to X-Com in the form of Rebel Star: Tactical Command. I could go on about how the Namco 50th Anniversary feels suspiciously like Namco Museum with a few extra titles added on, or make fun of the wussification of the One Piece license in the US. But not this week.

This week I'm saying forget all this. All that stuff below will be here later, and the world isn't running short on fun games to play. Instead, take that $20 to $50 and, rather than buy a shiny new toy, dump it on the Red Cross or charity of your choice. The Red Cross donation page is right here, for your clicking convenience.

Week of August 29 - September 3

Tuesday, August 30

Pump It Up: Exceed (PS2, Xbox)
Dancing game, complete with mat, with arrows on the diagonals.

Mario Superstar Baseball (Gamecube)
Mario's sports careers prevent him yet again from rescuing princesses.

WWE Day of Reckoning (GC)
Big, sweaty guys grappling with each other.

Dynasty Warriors Advance (GBA)
The Three Kingdoms era of Chinese history receives yet another beat-down.

Wednesday, August 31

Namco Museum 50th Anniversary (PS2, Xbox, GC, GBA, PC)
The classics compilation gets a few more games added in.

Nascar 06: Total Team Control (PS2, Xbox)
In theory, much more than just driving around in a big oval.

Moto GP 3 (Xbox)
Motorcycle racing, not to be confused with the identically-named series on the PS2.

Yugioh: Nightmare Troubador (DS)
More Yugioh card battling, but now with touch-screen action!

Thursday, September 1

World Series of Poker (PS2, Xbox)
Apparently it's some sort of card game involving gambling. Games played with cards, what will they think of next?

King of Fighters 02/03 (Xbox)
SNK puts a bit more of their fighting history back on a current-gen console.

Week of September 5 - September 10

Wednesday, September 7

Gretzky 2006 (PS2, PSP)
Hockey from Sony...

NHL 06 (PS2, Xbox, GC, PC)
Hockey from Electronic Arts...

NHL 2K6 (PS2, Xbox)
And Hockey from 2K Games, via Take 2. That's a lot of hockey for one day.

One Piece Grand Battle (PS2, Xbox)
Anime characters just can't resist pounding on one another.

Rainbow Six: Lockdown (PS2, Xbox)
Modern-day tactical military action FPS.

Radiata Stories (PS2)
Tri-Ace's new RPG with action-oriented battles, and lots of kicking of items when not fighting.

Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus (GBA)
Um... yeah. Moving right along...

Danny Phantom: The Ultimate Enemy (GBA)
Cartoon-based beat-em-up.

One Piece (GBA)
Anime-based action platformer.

Power Rangers: S. P. D. (GBA)
Cheesy tv show based game of some sort so forgettable that even the publisher won't list on its web site.

Rebelstar: Tactical Command (GBA)
Handheld X-Com. Or, turn-based alien fighting battle strategy with RPG elements, for those not up on their classic gaming.
