The Basics: Well, here's a title that I never saw coming. And to perfectly honest, I don't recall seeing it featured at Nintendo's E3 Media Briefing. But in any case, it would seem that a new chapter in the Paper Mario era has been under development for some time.
When I first glimpsed the shots over at 1up, I thought "awesome, it's Paper Mario in 2D form". But as I flipped through the featured screenshots, I noticed there were several shots revealing some 3D action going on as well. Is it a 2D or 3D adventure? Well, it's both. Fusing both perspectives in conjunction with RPG and platformer elements, the game will shift players back and forth between dimensions spanning eight adventure-filled worlds full of traps, mystery and intrigue. And though Mario is the main star of the game, we'll also have the chance to play as Peach and Bowser. Extra playable characters FTW!
What we think: It's Mario in a new game. What could be cooler than that? The fact that it incorporates 2-D gameplay elements, giving homage to the original roots of the Super Mario franchise. The most difficult thing I've gotta cope with is waiting until its release this holiday season. We'll keep you posted on additional developments as they unfold.
