The Basics: Dig Dug is getting more than just a re-release from Namco this fall on the Nintendo DS. Dig Dug Digging Strike is a modern continuation of the hugely influential original game that launched way back in 1982. In it, you will traverse 15 stages with more than 80 areas as well as experience bonus features such as an item collection challenge and a bunch of new mini-games.
Utilizing double screen action, this all-new 3D adventure introduces wireless co-op play along with the standard single-player mode and features new enemies, weapons, and environments--the works!
What do we think? Dig Dug is a true classic and one of a handful of games that got many of us into gaming in the first place. Though classic collections are nice, Dig Dug needs an update and the original seems to be a favorite among re-releases, proving that simple classics are still relevant today.
With a new look and game mechanics such as new weapons and environments, Dig Dug Digging Strike will hopefully capture a whole new audience and provide yet another solid game making use of the DS’ double screen layout. Perhaps it will even get younger generations of gamers into the classics of yesterday.
