While the title’s namesake sounds like just another poorly executed stealth-action effort, Dreamcatcher’s upcoming title is shaping up to be anything but. Granted, it doesn’t feature a high-profile hero such as the likes of Solid Snake and Sam Fisher, but perhaps that’s what has us so intrigued about the premise. Unlike his peers, freelance journalist Matt Carter lacks the military training and expertise to skillfully handle the unfortunate situation he’s got himself into. Following a routine assignment, Matt arrives in Moscow and ultimately gets tangled in a rather nasty conspiracy designed to control the U.S.S.R. The poor guy even gets himself roughed up a bit and thrown into political prison, suspected to be a retired C.I.A. agent. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to evade or overcome Soviet forces, diffuse the conspiracy and hopefully, find a means to prove your innocence. Sounds too tough for one man, doesn’t it? Well, luckily for you, Matt seems to have picked up a few MacGuyer-like traits, allowing him to create a variety of gadgets that will give him a tactical advantage against his enemies.

Cold War offers an open-ended, non-linear world, allowing players to accomplish their objectives in a variety of ways. In other words, you have the option of tip-toeing like a sneaky cat or be all you can be as a gung-ho, militaristic hero. Just try not to get yourself killed in the process. Cold War will feature several real-life Soviet locations including Lenin’s Mausoleum, Chernobyl, and even the KGB’s notorious Lubyanka prison. Look forward to a more complete impressions later this year once a preview build lands on our proverbial desk. In the meantime, we’re pleased to provided you with the first video trailer showcasing the game in action. Expect the game to arrive on retail shelves this September, followed by a simultaneous release on the Xbox (hopefully with some sort of Xbox Live multiplayer action thrown in).
