The Basics: After a successful run on the console front, Red Storm is bringing the acclaimed fourth installment to the PC.
Once again, Team Rainbow is called into action to combat a deadly bioterrorism threat. To quote directly from the words of the press release: the crisis takes Rainbow into new territory and new situations, as for the first time the hunter becomes the hunter. Gets you all tingly, doesn't it?
While the essence of the console edition will remain intact, Red Storm has wisely decided to incoporate a series of PC-specific features designed to enhance the close-quarter battle intensity. Some of the notable features include things like a new multiplayer reward system, re-imaged missions designed to offer a substantially greater challenge, enemies are equipped with an improved tactical behaviours which require quick and intense decsion making -- move too fast and you'll find the enemy's waiting for you! Other notable additions -- 20 new weapons (42 overall), including 6 new weapons never featured in a Rainbox Six title and 14 fan-favorites taken from the franchise's history. Best of all, players can customize their weapon to suit their play style. Want more? How about the return of 3 classic multiplayer maps -- 747, Mint and Bunkers, a new rivalry mode: Rainbow vs. Mercenaries, battling over three different objective types. I'd say Red Storm has covered all the bases, wouldn't you.
What do we think? While I've never particularly been an avid supporter of the Rainbow Six games, Red Storm has a solid reputation for producing remarkable games and the PC edition is posied not to disappoint. Perhaps one of these days, I'll stop being so console-centric and get involved with one of their Rainbow releases. Who knows, come 2006, you just might see with armed and ready online. Look out!
