War is heck, especially for throwaway SRPG soldiers.

"Eat hot lead, you furry sons of bitches!" the sergeant shouts between clenched teeth before opening up on two of them that made the mistake of standing too close together, leaping into the air before raining down a shower of bullets...and we try not to snicker when it fails to kill either of them. Friendly fire is always just a hair trigger temper away. Speaking of flames, our own pyromaniac princess torches those sorry sods, burning them to ash without even getting her fancy dress smudged.
With an explosion and a swirl of light, a new beachhead magically appears before us. Our sergeant raises up her arm and is about to give the order to continue the invasion when a loud rumble shakes the ground underneath our feet. That's when we see the tank, especially its massive gun pointed in our direction.
"For Lord Zetta!" our new medic exclaims before boldly charging forward, frantically waving his giant drill in the air.
"What do you think his nickname should be?" Green idly remarks as he twirled his spear, assuming a classic guard position.
"How about Dead Meat Boy?" Banana offered as he tosses aside his new mace in favor of his older but more trustworthy axe.
"Too many letters," I note sagely as I cock my shotgun.
There was almost no chance we were going to make it through this alive, just like the previous three campaigns, though we have no choice but to do as that crazy book commands.
The cannon fodder company is on the march again. Hopefully, next time I'll be reincarnated as a prinny.
