The Basics: SCEA is heading back to the ice this Fall with an all new installment featuring cover boy Wayne Gretzky. And since the NHL recently decided to change up their rules -- the developers thought about making making some new changes as well.
Details are pretty light right now, but we've learned that this year's edition is designed to appeal to diehard and casual hockey fans. For example, the new 3-on-3 Countdown Mini-Game mode allows players to hit the ice and work their way down from a set number of goals. Yes, you can customize the number of goals too (3, 5, 7, 9, 11). And to offer an aggressive, fase-packed, open-ice game, look forward to flames that register speed bursts, no penalties, no offsides and more.
What do we think? My memories of playing an arcade style hockey game goes way back to the days of Blades of Steel. While the game sounds like it has all the makings a great title and the screenshots show promise, I am going to wait until a few more details are released before I draw an official first impression. No word yet on whether or not the game will support online multiplayer, which would easily convince me to pick it up. We'll keep you posted with more highlights as they unfold.
