Maybe I'm Not Cut Out for Mob Life
As you're wiggling through the city and you finally manage to steer your Mobster in the correct direction, you realize the game feels and plays like any old Grand Theft Auto game. Moreover, those who had time to pick up and play The Warriors would feel like they'd been down this path before and sometimes that's a good thing. In this case, you start to wonder if this will be more of a hassle than a challenging action platformer. The first mission is to get to your safehouse, the second is to answer the phone, and the third is to leave the safehouse. When they flash these missions onto the screen, you're left glaring at their obvious nature. You hear the phone ringing and unless you're mentally backwards, you've already figure to answer it. Did you really need that kind of guidance? They can say they were catering to younger audiences but younger audiences shouldn't even be PLAYING this game let alone bitching about how they had no idea the phone was ringing.
Simplicity in design is important, but when you start to get too pre-school, you let down a lot of your fans and almost insult your audience. By flashing obvious issues onto the screen instead of just making a radar or map note of the next objective, it can lead a player to getting annoyed rather fast. The person playing alongside me and I immediately got frustrated at the ease of play and the huge rewards we'd get for simple tasks. We beat someone up and got two grand just for pressing triangle, and let's not forget the clothing bonus I unlocked when I smashed into a cash register! Kindergartners might clap and giggle at what they've gotten for bumping into stuff, but I'm just not too impressed.
Like Waking Up To A Horse Head
In a perfect world, we could call up our gaming companies and make suggestions to make things better and they'd listen. In a perfect universe, nobody would make games based on movies because of the sheer chance they take on it being a hit title. It only happened a handful of times and this time, I think they could've done it a lot better. Graphics and realistic sound are will only get you so far, and this is one of those times where having a GTA cookie-cutter platform game won't get you there. This game would be better off sleeping with the fishes until it can be reincarnated twenty years later into something amazing.
Please don't kill me. :)
