Although the single-player modes certainly offer their fill of challenges (as of today, I am currently working on unlocking the fifth circuit in Tournament Mode), there will be occasions where you'll yearn for some human competition. Using the system's built-in Wi-Fi functionality, players can go up against a friend (8 maximum), and enjoy some wireless fun. Sadly, no plans were made to offer support for a Infrastructure Mode. I'd like to think the option is still feasible even if that means waiting a bit longer for its inclusion. And while Pure's lack of a full online isn't particularly necessary, however, knowing that it's available on Twisted Metal: Head-On makes its absence painfully obvious. Thankfully, plans are in the works to offer new downloadable content, which according to various reports, will weigh in roughly between 8 to 40 MBs. Prior to the release of this article, it's still unknown when we should expect the goods, though rumors suggest within the next month or so. In any case, if you're planning on obtaining all of that awesome goodness, this may be a good time to look into a sizeable Memory Stick Duo. In the interim, if you're looking to get the most out of your product, and with a bit of technical modifications, Pure can also offer wireless internet browsing, allowing you to visit some of your favorites online destinations (like here, perhaps? *hint, hint*)

I have to give a special mention to the game's awesome soundtrack which introduced several popular electronica and up-and-coming talents including Tiesto, Cold Storage, Freq Nasty and Jay Tripwire. For me, this fine collection of musical bliss truly won me over -- rekindling a similar vibe that was ushered by such groups as Future Sound of London who composed the track "We Are Explosive". Not only do I consider it a personal favorite, but the track was exalted by techno and gaming enthusiasts at the time to be the ultimate spirit of what Wipeout represents. Which brings up a personal quibble -- where's the custom soundtrack option? I mean, with all of this talk of tossing your favorite tunes on the PSP -- didn't it occur to SCEE how cool it would have been to be able to import the songs I want to race to? Perhaps it was an oversight or something that had to do with fiscal year planning, or whatever (I am willing to overlook it) -- but please, please, PLEASE Sony, should a sequel ever come along, you've got to toss that in there. The fans demand it.

Ultimately, Pure is packed with plenty of fast-paced thrills and content guaranteed to keep your hands glued to the PSP for days to come. And while it's a toss-up amongst existing owners whether this or Ridge Racer is the true killer app -- one thing we can all agree on is that your collection won't be complete until you pick up this game. Ready. . . Go!
