  1. Ettiquette For Dummies

I'm a shitty fucking mood today.
    It didn't start that way.
Even though it was rainy and I didn't want to get out of bed, by the time I got in my car for my hour long drive to work I was feeling pretty good.
I opened the doors to customers at 11:55 am. By 12:10 I was ready to go home.

Nine times out of ten, the only people who are at my door first thing are people needing cash. Cash for diapers, cash for smokes, cash for drugs, and cash cash cash cash. One ...

  2. The Wednesday Streets of East Philly: story one - Young Dog Trap

When I grew up, we ate cheesesteak, root for the Eagles, watched Fresh Prince, and went down the corner to see what Dog Trap was up to. Of course, back then he was called Skirt Cone. We were ten.

Skirt was a middle child of eight and he talked like it. He knew everything and he was loud. And when he was funny, he was funny. But we only got to see him every other year, before he'd wear his moms out and she'd pack him up and send him to his dad in Red Hook, who it turn only put up with

  3. Out Nerding the Nerd

You can take it for granted that I hate most customers. Ok, all customers.
But the ones that I hate the most, the ones that I'd love to shove my arm down their throat, grab hold of their raisinet balls and rip them out through their mouths? The goddamn game nerds.
They're all the same, and they're all the worst. They always come in in pairs. They're like the goddamn Sith of video game retail. There is Super Nerd who makes sure to point out all the "interesting" facts ...

  4. Technophile

I love technology. I have since playing with After Dark screen savers on my dad's ancient machine. It was on 3 floppies. Straight terminal input. I watched those flying toasters and I thought "damn, this is nice".

2d video games sort of capped at Sonic 2, lvl 2 part 2. Chemical zone. Jumping. Let me just tell you that all I did was drown my little blue spikey guy in that chemical ooze. The dramatic music didn't help. I was actually moving the controller around, ...
  5. Regarding etiquette in restaurant seating

When my wife and I go to a restaurant and sit down for a meal, we usually sit across from each other in a booth. The booth feels comfortable to me probably mostly because it seems more enclosed than a set of seats situated around a table, and I think I prefer it because it's something which is unique to a dining experience. I can sit at a table when I'm eating at home; dining out is something which is to be enjoyed for it being a rare occasion.

From what I can tell, though - and I'm ...

  7. Fixies SUCK!

by , 19 Aug 2010 at 09:01 PM (The Rise and Fall of the Rude Owls)
Why do people hate fixies so much but give single speed bikes a free pass? Why are hipsters associated with fixies, when there are enough purple bikes with neon-green Deep-V with gold freewheel hubs to completely disassociate hipsters with fixed gears? Mostly it's people being ignorant. It's fun to be a dumbass when everyone else is doing it, but sometimes... sometimes... don't you wish you had something you could care about without everyone making fun of it? If you don't want to be a stupid asshole, ...

  8. cool story bro - Chapter III

Once in a while, my Mom would like to take my sister and me to downtown Chicago for a day about the loop. Usually this meant going to a few stores, a museum of some kind (usually the Art Institute), then meet up with my Dad after he got off of work to go eat at Uno's Pizza or some other restaurant.

I was in my early teen years on the day of this particular visit, and at that time I always had a Walkman on me to play some tape of common rock songs which I probably would just as soon ...

  9. The Customer is ALWAYS an Asshole

"How are you doing today?" Guy is dressed nice and offers the first greeting. This should go well!
"Fine! Is there anything I can help you find or any questions I can answer?"
"Yeah, how much can I get for this game?" Whips out a PS3 Modern Warfare 2. I open it and check out the disc.
"You're looking at $20 cash or $25 store credit."
"Can't you make it $25 cash? I need to go to the DMV and..." Why do people think I give ...

  10. cool story bro - Chapter II

There was a place I used to hang out with a few other people. Technically I stayed as a roommate with the guy who owned the place for a few months but what I'm writing about happened after I had come and gone on those terms.

At one point he had a big black cat that always wanted to get outside of the house, and once it did, the guy never let the cat back into the house. While not outwardly abusive, I think it's accurate to say that he wasn't exactly the best pet owner. I was at the ...
  11. cool story bro - Chapter I

One of the houses I lived at as a child had a driveway which had a pair of shrubs lining the sides. They were mostly a slender rectangular shape of a few feet in height and length with a slimmer width. These kind of bushes turned out to be great places for bees and wasps to build nests.

So I was like 8 or 9 at the time and was playing out in the front yard where the bushes are and there's a nest in the bush which would be on your right side if you were to pull into the driveway. Despite ...
  12. How did I get here?

I have toyed with lucid dreaming in the past. And I went on a good run of spotting my dreams, then manipulating them -- more often than not for sex -- I was eighteen.

So, last night I had a dream. And in it, I left work at lunch, sold a CD, and while sleepy, and not paying attention, I hit a pedestrian.

I hit the breaks and stopped.

But not in time to avoid hitting her. There were kids in the road, too. I didn't hit those, as far as I know.

  14. Oh happy day.

I hate Vista. Windows Vista is the biggest piece of horse dong that was ever crapped out of MS. Serious. Vista has been giving me problems for over a year. It all came ahead about two weeks ago when it decided to update more security holes. So, what happens? They install. I restart ... and then everything from Windows Photo Gallery to MS Office ... stops working, loading, etc. Yeah seems I have a virus. From where?

    Exactly.

So, I try and overwrite it by Installing ...

  15. Why I Hate Editing

Let's say when you die, you get to write your own eulogy. But you can't just make shit up. You have to use what's there.

You look back on every sec of your life with a comb and magnifying glass, every detail, every mistake. And you can't re-do or change any of it. You can just manipulate it or hide it.

But hiding it is not that simple. You have to hide it really good... where no one is looking, notices and wonders, "Hey! What just happened there??" So, ...
