  1. LB log - 2015 Week 17

Another week on the job where at least one day of it had an incident with my liftgate dying out in the middle of the route. This time it happened at the exact same point in the course of the route as happened with the first of two incidents last week. To cap it off, when I went underneath the trailer to open the battery box and reset the power supply, I ripped my pants as I crawled around there. Good thing I wear a legging layer underneath. Despite that and a bit of rain to deal with today, the ...

  2. LB log - 2015 Week 16

In the course of my job route I go past a fire station. It's on a major street and near an intersection (to its west), and there are stop lights both at said intersection as well as to its immediate east, which effectively marks the border of the area in which there are to be no cars stopped in order for the fire trucks to actually leave when needed. To further reinforce this point, the entire area of street which meets the opening to the station is marked with large diagonal white stripes. Pop ...

  3. LB log - 2015 Week 15

The new elliptical machine which was set to be delivered this coming Monday has actually arrived. Today. It's in the garage right now. The next thing I need to do is find the time and motivation to assemble it - it will come, but how soon.

Dear Japanese Pop Song artists - please stop using the word "homie" in your lyrics. Please. There's two instances where I've heard this in the course of listening to my radio recordings, and while any incidental English use tends to glaringly ...

  4. LB log - 2015 Week 14

The entire obstacle in my way of logging into the MeF system using the newest A2A client was a setting in a small configuration file which set a location for logs to be generated. It had a predetermined location and name which didn't exist on my PC, therefore the client would crash. That's it. Now I get to see when I can even get to getting a batch of proper test returns to transmit.

With April 15 rushing forward and no foreseeable way that my delivery work hours will decrease, I ...

  5. LB log - 2015 Week 13

Finally got the ball rolling with the IRS MeF submission process only to have it be stopped at the login with the new program. I allowed a week for them to evaluate the situation after telling them all that I could think to be relevant, including what reference I looked up in their documentation to show that I at least made an attempt to read their literature and not come knocking on their door at the first sight of a problem. The week passed without further response after their timely replies on ...

  6. LB log - 2015 Week 12

My main clients are taken care of now for this year. Good. The IRS package has come in, and I have precious little time available to get that installed, get the test returns verified, get the IRS questionnaire sent to me and submitted, have the test returns be approved - all for the main and possibly sole purpose of filing my own return. Having that be the use doesn't bother me, though. It needs to be done and I need to do it.

Delivery work continued to be pretty dumb this week. Another ...

  7. LB log - 2015 Week 11

The weather may be nicer but the work situation hasn't exactly improved in the course of this week at least. Two of the five days had my first stop get massive orders, the second of which came without warning and required two hours of labor to handle. The tractor which I had been using consistently for at least a month was suddenly assigned to someone else in the middle of the week, and the mere process of finding a replacement took twenty minutes to do. The cardboard box containers which were normally ...

  8. LB log - 2015 Week 10

There was one more stressful day in the week. The rapid change from warmer weather to cold probably caused some moisture and humidity to freeze within some air brake chambers, and assuming that is the case I got to experience the consequences first hand. I get to work, hook up to the trailer, load it up, and leave - but in the process of doing so I notice that it takes the tractor a lot more time to actually move from a full stop and that the cab itself vibrates much more noticeably as this happens. ...

  9. LB log - 2015 Week 09

Looks like I forgot to post this on time. It was a long week last week, and today's run for Monday wasn't much better. Ask me to try a new turn, I give you a trailer rim bent so badly it needs to be cut off with a blowtorch. I can't win.

No arcade visit last weekend, and I didn't even bother sitting down to this PC until earlier Monday afternoon. You'll have to forgive me for not taking the time to say more at the moment.

  10. LB log - 2015 Week 08

There were two prevailing themes to this week's work days. The first half of the week was National Engine and Transmission Return Week, as I combined to bring about fifty of them back to the hub on the first two days. At least I was fortunate enough to have the proper pallet jacks with me on both days, and there's no new snow to worry about here, so I was able to handle the work with little issue beyond the extra time required to do so. The rest of the week had me start out an hour late basically ...

  11. LB log - 2015 Week 07

The most noteworthy thing to report from this week, at least in respect of my job, is that I had basically nothing noteworthy befall upon me within it. No breakdowns, no injuries or sprains or other health complaints, no new snow to deal with, no getting out from the hub an hour late to start my day, no wide searches for pallet jacks before leaving and having to deal with a half functioning jack through the day. For five days, the routine was actually routine.

    I'm at Form 1040 SS ...

  12. LB log - 2015 Week 06

Tuesday morning. The promised snow did come and was as cleaned up as it could be after a full day, but there was so much of it that it presented problems, such as what I encountered here. For my second stop I approach a T intersection which turns to the left with the rear of the dealership on the right. My normal procedure is to turn to the left and then go in reverse into the lot to position my trailer by the door to make the delivery. There was so much snow that had been plowed that the normal ...

  13. LB log - 2015 Week 05

This week of work has been rather inconsistent in terms of time taken for me to complete the day. Yesterday had me done at 930AM and today had me end at 1030AM, and the latter time is accounting for my last stop not being part of the route as usual for Saturdays. One day, my first and heaviest stop will have a few dozen pieces, and then today it will have closer to a gross in quantity. One day, the time taken to handle that first stop is forty minutes, and today it was one hundred and forty minutes. ...

  14. LB log - 2015 Week 04

This week's work time fun came yesterday. The trailer's liftgate panel has an up and down button, and they're of the type which you see on something like an outdoor panel to a car wash or ATM or the like - a smooth plastic covering over the depressable button below the surface. For whatever reason, the Down button was getting stuck through the course of the day until it got to the point that it remained on indefinitely. Pressing Up would override the Down, but only to a very slow extent. When I ...

  15. LB log - 2015 Week 03

What a week. Today had me done with the route by 1130AM when usual Saturdays will have be back by 830AM or so - among the issues I faced was the assigned tractor having a missing gladhand, the tractor I used yesterday not being serviced and now in a totally unusable state, and the only pallet jack which I could find (after wasting a half hour looking for it) required a solid minute of pumping just to lift an object barely above the ground. Compounding this latter issue was me having to take some ...
