  1. LB log - 20120612

Tomorrow, I need to buy a tube of silicon caulk and a gun to shoot it so that I can do some detailing around parts of the outside, so that I can seal off cracks where seeds can creep into and begin to sprout plants. Tomorrow, I also need to take the time to pay all the utility bills and write a check for the CC payment. Speaking of the CC bill, I wonder when I'll get back to playing Akai Katana.

In the middle of work yesterday, I was called by a recruiter who my sister was working ...

I think what I'm going to try to write here, for no other reason than to pad out the preview space so that the damnable Code box doesn't creep into view, is to try writing out bits of my fictional collaboration story. Maybe in doing this I won't feel like I never make an effort to continue at it and do something with the purpose of having it done quick so that I can get it into the open and in view, and know what to revise later on when I put things in. If I can just write out a few paragraphs every ...

  3. LB log - 20120610

Another day, another pair of call offs. It's so hot outside. So hot. Who wants to work in this kind of weather? Chumps, right? And can you believe how hot it is? Like close to 90 degrees? 90! That's like, summer weather or something. I know! In June!

I think I want to buy a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label. I liked that terribly cheap whiskey I had a while ago, maybe something good would be even better.

    Extra Mode. The Usual.

  4. I finally decided to talk about Dragon Age: Origins

by , 10 Jun 2012 at 11:27 PM (PepsimanVsJoe talks about random games.)
I won't bore you guys with my opinion of Bioware today. Instead I'll bore you with my opinion of Bioware's last good game, Dragon Age: Origins.
It's been awhile since I've played this game and I've already forgotten a lot about it. Forgive me if I miss some of the finer details.

You are a dwarven/elven/human man or a woman who up until now had a noble/peasant/awesome/lame upbringing. Well that all changed when some clown tricked you into becoming a Grey Warden. After a wild ...

Note to self - the wife doesn't like desserts with seeded berries in them. Ever. Just don't buy that triple berry pie, no matter how nice you might think it is and nice it may be.

Meanwhile, this happened within the first hour at retail work. I was busy pulling a styrofoam coffee cup out of a cart seat, which took effort because it was wedged into the top of it from another cart below. Rather than pull the cart out and letting it fall at random, I pull at the cup to remove it without ...

After buying a cheap MP3 player to listen to the TNL podcasts, I came to realize that I had the world of podcasts to now listen to if I desired; and given the alternative to it being at the mercy of either NPR or five minutes of music followed by fifteen minutes of commercials, the choice to dive in was rather easy. I found a place to get the first 300 episodes of This American Live and have started to listen to them from the beginning, which means that the shows which I've been hearing were recorded ...

  7. LB log - 20120607

With level 60 reached and Hell finished, I have now reached the point in Diablo 3 where I wanted to be so that I can not play it religiously (read: several hours per day) as I have done since the game has come out. The worst part about it is that one of the most engaging mechanics is only available at 60 (Neph Valor), so I feel more compelled to play it now than I fundamentally ever have in the last few weeks. But, I must refrain from continuing the pattern. I don't intend to quit playing the game ...

  8. LB log - 20120606

Laid to rest at 430AM this morning and woke at 910AM without any alarm or provocation. OK. My mom called shortly thereafter, so I would have waken at that point regardless - and the reason that she called is to let me know that she was done with a Great Lectures DVD series (History of the World) so I could come over to borrow it, and because she wanted me to buy some specific kind of bottled water. Fine. Took care of that, brought the wife home for lunch while doing that, dropped her back off, went ...

  9. The Hill of the Thrunt

    Today was an O-K day.
I decided to hit Clay/North Syracuse and DeWitt/East Syracuse.
The first place I stopped was K-mart in Fulton. There was a small blurb in the ad about clearance games being buy one, get one 40% off.
They didn't have much of anything. This Kmart is hit or miss with me. Fulton is a small city and there's a super walmart, which is where most people go. Kmart is usually a ghost town.
The employees rarely keep up with the markdowns, which is good ...

  10. LB log - 20120605

Mowed the lawn today, and I noticed that it was sputtering with regularity. I hope it's just a spark plug which needs to be replaced, or that the gas I used to fill it today was old; otherwise I'll have to buy a second new lawn mower in as many years. I don't have a large yard and I'm just getting a simple push mower, so I don't see how much abuse I'm honestly putting into these machines for them to break down.

Time is wasting and that's all I have to show for an accomplishment today. ...

  11. The Thrill of the Hunt

I'm going to shift the focus of this blog. I gotta be honest, there is only so much I can bitch about concerning videogame retail. It's the same stuff, different day every day. The faces change, but the stories are all the same. Hence the whole nine posts since this started.

So instead, I'm going to share my shopping experiences. You are so interested, ADMIT IT!
Most of what I sell is from trade ins or clearance sales. But a small part of it comes from me hitting up ...

  12. Dragon's Logma - Final(?) Volume

by , 05 Jun 2012 at 08:37 PM (PepsimanVsJoe talks about random games.)
As much as I enjoy this game it's time I moved on. I'll likely head back to it when some significant DLC hits but until then I've got other games I need to play and write about.
So for the time being this will be the last update.

Before I go any further though. Has this E3 sucked or what? Yeah totally unrelated but man it's depressing. Some of the products being announced sound completely ridiculous like Microsoft's SmartGlass garbage and Sony's hopelessly useless Wonderbook. ...

    Small talk.

Most resort to the weather, particularly when they know that you work primarily outdoors. If they are out there with you, though, suddenly that lone card is off of the table and what remains can be nothing at all but silence. When I do my job I have many periods where I will be walking next to a person and nothing is said for minutes at a time. It becomes something of an aural staring match in my estimation, or at least makes me wonder about what I could do differently, ...

What if I were fired today.

A good question most anyone should ask themselves now and then, just to see where their priorities are and what type of contingency plan is mentally set in place. Long story short, I had a situation at work today where if I bothered to speak my mind truthfully, I likely would have faced discipline if not termination. Given the specific job and what it pays, things wouldn't change for me incredibly drastically; but one thing I would have to give up immediately ...

  15. LB log - 20120602

At retail work, the only guy scheduled to start in the morning called off, so I was by myself. Otherwise, same ol' song about busted equipment and pain and whining and bleah. I was only there as a write-in for half of a shift because today is the day that my cousin decided to hold a party for her high school graduation. The location is a restaurant which is a two hour drive from where I live. With my wife having work early in the morning to consider, and the rest of my immediate family otherwise ...
