  1. five faces of darkness

We all have personal flaws. Even here on TNL where people act like they are the life breath of the Gods.

I'm pretty aware of mine, though it might not seem like it. One that really bothers me is that I do not live my life in such way that is fulfilling to me on a daily basis. I am living in such a way that things will work out in the long term. Despite what some might say, I am intelligent. I am pursuing things that will bring me a job and about as much security as an educated ...

  2. Fixies SUCK!

by , 19 Aug 2010 at 08:01 PM (The Rise and Fall of the Rude Owls)
Why do people hate fixies so much but give single speed bikes a free pass? Why are hipsters associated with fixies, when there are enough purple bikes with neon-green Deep-V with gold freewheel hubs to completely disassociate hipsters with fixed gears? Mostly it's people being ignorant. It's fun to be a dumbass when everyone else is doing it, but sometimes... sometimes... don't you wish you had something you could care about without everyone making fun of it? If you don't want to be a stupid asshole, ...

  3. cool story bro - Chapter III

Once in a while, my Mom would like to take my sister and me to downtown Chicago for a day about the loop. Usually this meant going to a few stores, a museum of some kind (usually the Art Institute), then meet up with my Dad after he got off of work to go eat at Uno's Pizza or some other restaurant.

I was in my early teen years on the day of this particular visit, and at that time I always had a Walkman on me to play some tape of common rock songs which I probably would just as soon ...

  4. Standing Still

I'm tired of not going anywhere. I realized a few months ago I'm at a complete standstill in life. I've had little opportunity to move to anything else. With more seasoned pros competing for jobs suited for people my age, it's harder to find something to move to in my field. And it's aggravating.

I don't know how people can sit still in one place long enough and be content. It's impossible for me to remain happy in the same situation. At first I thought there was something wrong ...
  5. The Customer is ALWAYS an Asshole

"How are you doing today?" Guy is dressed nice and offers the first greeting. This should go well!
"Fine! Is there anything I can help you find or any questions I can answer?"
"Yeah, how much can I get for this game?" Whips out a PS3 Modern Warfare 2. I open it and check out the disc.
"You're looking at $20 cash or $25 store credit."
"Can't you make it $25 cash? I need to go to the DMV and..." Why do people think I give ...

  6. Big fish in a little pond

It really isn't hard to know if you are intelligent in the south. You tend to stick out like a dragqueen with her hair on fire.

case in point, this is a real tv ad in MS.

  7. US Tax News - 20100805

So this just happened - IRS Removes Debt Indicator for 2011 Tax Filing Season.

Here are corporate responses to this news by H&R Block and Jackson Hewitt. Stock prices in both companies fell as a result of this news.

When individual tax returns are electronically filed, they are acknowledged in a data set which also includes the so called Debt Indicator. If the taxpayer has outstanding amounts owed to a Federal or State agency - for anything from back taxes to unpaid ...

  8. chocolate

    chocolate is pretty awesome

Germany had good chocolate, and so did England. I also had some swiss chocolate while in germany. Nice stuff.

I don't buy into the foriegn chocolate being better thing. Hershey's are pretty good, when fresh. And so are mallocups. I think the major problems with American chocolate is the fact that so much of it is not fresh. Stores get a ton of it in bulk, and then leave it in a storage room for forever. Or they buy those huge predecorated ...
  9. In which I bitch about the lack of customer service....oh, iPhones.

I decided after a lot of late night article reading and youtube comparison videos - i wanted to get an iPhone 4. My current cell phone plan will run out in a few weeks, so I figured I'd take the plunge and get one of these newfangled smartphones. I know there's lots of smartphones out there, however, I am a 25 year old girl and apple enjoys marketing to me. Coincidentally, the boyfriend hates his shitty month to month current phone/plan, so we both decided, "hey! let's go down to the at&t ...

  10. Rules 1 & 2

I support them, much like the US supported the Taliban in the 80's. Now, I do not condone 2/3 of the shit they do -- a minority of the raids, the daily CP that is part of that life -- but I deal with it for the genuine no-punches-pulled humor and the words inserted into our collective lexicon in trade.

In fact, I can't imagine a world world without them. It's like a boom town in the wild west and Anon is the mafia is running the show! But no matter how much the outside world portray ...

  12. World of Warcraft

Today I deleted my Priest and canceled by account. You know what? Fuck that game.

I did some neat stuff, sure. I competed at a level that most people in Azeroth aren't even aware of; I can't count the number of times I was asked where Death's Demise or Light of Dawn came from, and don't get me started on Plagued Proto Drakes. I killed quite literally every single boss available in that game, and for all of the Wrath expansion stayed at the cutting edge of content. I built a character ...

Fotunately (un?) for you, I have discovered that TNL has a blog. I've been neglecting TNL and, I want you all to know it's not because that the old guard is #2--or even #1 for that matter--it's because most of the time, when I lurk, it's filled with new tards I don't know posting about shit I don't care about.

In any event. I feel like writing, and have a few topics in mind, but seeing how I am drawing a blank on what to bust out, I'll leave it open to suggestions.

  14. cool story bro - Chapter II

There was a place I used to hang out with a few other people. Technically I stayed as a roommate with the guy who owned the place for a few months but what I'm writing about happened after I had come and gone on those terms.

At one point he had a big black cat that always wanted to get outside of the house, and once it did, the guy never let the cat back into the house. While not outwardly abusive, I think it's accurate to say that he wasn't exactly the best pet owner. I was at the ...
  15. cool story bro - Chapter I

One of the houses I lived at as a child had a driveway which had a pair of shrubs lining the sides. They were mostly a slender rectangular shape of a few feet in height and length with a slimmer width. These kind of bushes turned out to be great places for bees and wasps to build nests.

So I was like 8 or 9 at the time and was playing out in the front yard where the bushes are and there's a nest in the bush which would be on your right side if you were to pull into the driveway. Despite ...
