  1. LB log - 2015 Week 37

Having a Monday off gives me a direct benefit to two weeks, in that it ends one week with a nice three day respite, and it starts the next one with one day out of five already in the past. I may have had to use a different tractor two days out of the week, and the normal one which I use might be going right back into the shop after today due to the engine light coming back on again despite being in maintenance for two days, but I still feel much less drained on this Saturday than I have many others. ...

  2. LB log - 2015 Week 36

I suppose the main theme to this week of work is "transition". One of the stops which was removed from my route was silently returned to me at the start of this week, and the reason for that is because the parts plant is dragging its heels on getting the stop transferred from one shuttle to another. On that Monday, it was a heavier amount than normal and the stop added an hour to my day. It appears that under normal circumstances, the additional stop will add no more than a half hour to ...

  3. LB log - 2015 Week 35

Hi. It's patch week. There's some FF14 live event stream bullshit going on right now for which I have to see how it will affect anything I do. Work is good, song sessions went from not-good to good in a steady upward trend this week. Not much time to say much anything else, as if there would be much more of import to say and as if anyone other than Google spiders look at this. See you next week.

  4. LB log - 2015 Week 34

The change to my work route is very much to my benefit in terms of time spent, and I should see next week's paycheck first before fully confirming that I break even in terms of earnings otherwise. I believe it's the case, but I don't want to crow about it until I know for sure. Regardless, the changes make the route much more tolerable. I lose four stops and $20 per day in earnings. In doing so, I lose two hours of time required to run the route. With that change, I have enough time to do the optional ...

  5. LB log - 2015 Week 33

My work route has been adjusted, with the changes in effect starting next week. The first four stops are removed, and I must run the route in the sequential order as set by the parent corporation rather than the adjusted method which had been done before. I lose $20 per day for the change, but I should have at least two hours less time to take on the route, which means I can do the pre-load preparation and recover the $20 loss, and doing that in turn should mean my runs will go smoother through ...

  6. LB log - 2015 Week 32

I have just returned from my niece's birthday party. She will be 2 years old tomorrow. In terms of attendants and scope, it was a much more reduced affair compared to last year, and that's a difference which I personally welcome at least. I found an etsy site to get her a pair of hand made crochet dolls from the show Peg + Cat, and I think she might like them OK. She definitely loves Thomas the Tank Engine more at the moment. It's good to see her happy.

This week of work wasn't very ...

  7. LB log - 2015 Week 31

For the first four days of this work week, I used four different tractors on the route. For the first three days of this, I had to start the day by first going to the nearby truck rental facility to fuel up, which meant that everything else I need to do to prepare for the route gets pushed back that much longer. Despite that, in respect of volume both inbound and outbound my days were basically normal, so running the route wasn't too bad once I got rolling. When I finally got "my" old ...

  8. LB log - 2015 Week 30

Two breakdowns this week, and wouldn't you know it, they occur on the bookends.

Let's start with Monday. All through last week, the tractor I used was having some trouble starting up, but not enough that it caused any kind of warning lights to ever come on. Just a few seconds of labored turning before igniting. I get to my first stop this evening and stop the tractor, as usual. Make the delivery and return to get going. The engine won't turn over. The only thing that changes after ...

  9. LB log - 2015 Week 29

One of the incidents that came last week concerned a return of some engines. The location isn't very busy and in the few months which I've had this route now I don't recall having delivered more than one engine to them in the entire time. When I approached that day, there were three for me to take back. Most days I don't have a pallet jack with me and this was one such day, so I needed to find something to use on their site to move the gear to my trailer. Their parts department is separated from ...

  10. LB log - 2015 Week 28

Company's over this weekend. I'm still not really sure why they bothered, other than to do so.

Work week was mostly OK except for today. I can really do without running until the very last minute of the fourteen hour period, and people talking down to me like I'm an idiot.

Song sessions were still basically good.

  11. Time Crisis 5: some thoughts & impressions

It's been one hell of a long wait (9 years) but here is Time Crisis 5. As before, Wild Dog is back and a new team of VSSE agents is out to stop him. Robert Baxter returns but not as a playable character. Luke O'Neill (player 1) and Marc Godart (player 2) team up with Robert to stop an old nemesis. Running on PC hardware (Namco System ES3), this is one of a few arcade games that's powered by Unreal Engine.

  12. LB log - 2015 Week 27

Last week's work saga continued into Monday this week. The trailer which was stuck to my truck throughout that time was finally removed by the time I arrived at the start of the week, but my truck still had an issue with the liftgate power cord that remained unresolved. Also, Mondays are usually the heaviest days of the week in terms of outbound freight. The outbound freight also arrived to the hub late this day. So to start the week, I had a cord which still needed to be fixed (particularly since ...

  13. LB log - 2015 Week 26

    It's halftime.

I have had the same trailer attached to the truck I use at work this entire week. This is extraordinary in that the usual process is that you drop and detach the trailer at the hub dock at the end of the day, and park your untethered tractor elsewhere on the facility. It's a small facility and space is at a premium in the dock door area, so it's rare to see any tractors parked back there. The reason that my truck has stayed attached is mainly because of what happened ...

  14. LB log - 2015 Week 25

It has come to my attention that there are two car dealerships on my route which both have the 70's Sirius XM station played on the public speaker system over the entire outdoor lot. This might be cognitive ignorance on my part, but it honestly seems like 70's era music doesn't have the same nostalgic romantic response to it the same way as I see music for the 60's and 80's at least (and I think there's at least some subgenres of general 90's music which already has this kind of treatment as well), ...

  15. LB log - 2015 Week 24

The main lesson which I take from this week of work is that I cannot do the preload work on top of the route for a full week without having a significant impact on my health and well being. There were several moments through the week where it was an immense struggle to keep necessary attention to the road. Perhaps I could arrive to work an hour later and still get credit, and perhaps I could do nothing at all but work and sleep throughout the week; but the former possibility could potentially lead ...
