Sigh.

For lack of details which I don't want to put out in public, I'll just say that today was another generally bad day for me doing my job and that I'm not too happy about ending the weekend in this fashion.

I just need to not sleep through all of Sunday again.

It may have became a twelve hour day, and I may have only gotten through parts of it by having fortunate help come at the right times, but I did nonetheless survive the first solo run of the route. I'm not sure if I'll ever get it down to enough of a science that I can consistently keep it to eight hours, but at least it still somehow feels gratifying to do, in the sense of doing something that isn't insultingly menial.

I'm against the clock now anyway. Maybe more time to talk tomorrow. ...

The truck didn't really need that segment of the wind guard on its roof. That was yesterday, anyway. Today is a new day and tonight is a new night where I may indeed already be in the position to run the route myself. I proceeded to spend $60 on rubber stamps and ink so that I can slap my signature and the date on the 100+ documents in a more rapid fashion.

Rather than having my first week at the new job start on the second or third shift, it will actually be in the first shift instead. Start time is 7AM tomorrow. Surprise!

I lost the fortitude test this morning and turned in long before I wanted to. I couldn't resist the chance to actually be in bed with my wife for a change.

Windshield replaced, direct deposit set up, checks deposited, tickets paid off. Two issues remain.

I will be starting the route this week which I was intended to start learning last week. Upon looking directions over online, it looks to be rather short, less than 100 miles total for the whole trip. Let's just hope ...

Spent too much time moping today. It was good to have my wife home. Her visit went about as we had expected, which is to say, nice in some respects and shitty (pun intended) in others.

Today's highlight is my work day. It went well. Everything went on time, I drove past a wicked car fire on the way down, I was able to set up a makeshift PC speaker rig around my seat that worked well enough to use and hear the ipod. This has been a grueling week.

I slept more yesterday yet was more tired today in doing the route than yesterday morning. I had to stop no less than three separate times after getting gas this morning in order to stimulate myself enough to not start blanking out on the road. At the third stop I managed to park at a location which had the zero calorie Monster drink in a vending machine, and having that was enough to help prop me up for the remainder of the return. Getting there isn't a problem. Coming back, though. Coming back. Two hundred miles at midnight where the only lights on the road are from the vehicles, and that's after already driving 250 miles. Coming back is bad. It is very bad.

I finally come home and fall to bed in a heap. Five hours later, my body decides it wants to be awake.

I made it home with about forty minutes to spare before I would have had to stop driving for the day because of the eleven hour rule. It does turn out that I'll be doing the drive today and most likely the for the rest of the week.

I'll be better prepared for the trip today. I overshot a street on the inbound arrival and went under a tunnel in the course of my deviation, and the tunnel was having roadwork done on the other side, so when I had to retrace my steps I had to go into ...

15 hours. I somehow managed to sleep 15 hours today. It was pure decadence. It also will probably prove to screw me over as I'll need to try to find some way to sleep now and then wake up tonight so that I can keep my sleep rhythm in check, and that'll all be screwed up tomorrow night as the optional work assignment has indeed been confirmed to be coming to me, so I'll be making a round trip for a 9 hour drive starting Monday at 845PM.

The trainer hinted this time last week that it would be possible for the Saturday freight to be split into two trucks and to have our work be divided. When I came in, there was more cargo waiting to be loaded at the bay door than there was already inside the single trailer, and nobody was around to be seen loading it at that precise moment. The trainer brought an empty trailer back, so with that being done, we were indeed able to undertake the plan as he envisioned. Thus today was the first day ...

I think today is finally the first day that I drove the full route where I didn't commit any kind of major technical driving errors. It's quite a relief. I also obtained my first pay check this week, and even for only having four days of work I earned about as much as my wife formerly did for her single week of work. My trainer was not having a good day today. Right before coming into the yard at the start of my shift he had a deer collision (which he managed to keep from being head on so at least it didn't damage the truck or cause him injury). After we left, we had to return to the hub right away because the bag with the dealership keys was left behind.
