Video Games

Since I already blogged about this, not just once, but twice, I figure I might as well keep blogging until I wrap this game up and call it done.

I'll get my tweets out of the way first,

Day 3 of playing Sonic 2006. Started Silver's episode. Silver is actually a lot of fun to play as. So is Blaze.

"That took too long!" complains Silver at the end of an annoying boss fight. "Couldn't agree more." I reply in my head.

I wrote about my starting adventures in Sonic 2006 yesterday. At the end of last night, I put the disc back into the case and assumed the next person to feel it's wrath would be Mzo.
Today, my curiosity got the better of me. "How much worse can this actually get?" I kept thinking. "I'm already 30% in! How long could it take to wrap this up!?" also crept into my head.

I picked up the 2006 Sonic the Hedgehog on clearance for the Xbox 360 yesterday. This is the same Sonic game that was pretty much slammed by everyone as being one of the worse games ever made and for having realistic-princess on cartoon-hedgehog action.

Having just played Sonic Adventure on XBLA and still really digging it (faults and all), I couldn't imagine that this game was as horrible as I had heard before. A bit strange? Maybe. Funky art style? Sure. But godawful as people have ...

Ah, Sonic The Hedgehog. Not many franchises can claim as many highs and lows. I wish I could be excited for its 20th anniversary next year but if something that was supposed to be for the old fans (Sonic 4) can be completely busted in physics and control, I have to wonder what new lows the Sega-Sammy franchise wrecking machine is striving for. I actually do think next month's Sonic Colors looks quite nice in videos but it's most definitely still guilty until proven innocent.

Anyway, ...

I love technology. I have since playing with After Dark screen savers on my dad's ancient machine. It was on 3 floppies. Straight terminal input. I watched those flying toasters and I thought "damn, this is nice".

2d video games sort of capped at Sonic 2, lvl 2 part 2. Chemical zone. Jumping. Let me just tell you that all I did was drown my little blue spikey guy in that chemical ooze. The dramatic music didn't help. I was actually moving the controller around, ...

I've been thinking of my childhood years in terms of gaming recently and I wanted to compile a list of games that stand out the most and what I remember spending hours upon hours on.

I admit it; I initially loved Game Room. I loved the concept (still do), the cute little arcade cabs, the medals and achievements, and the high score challenges. I've been into it since launch day, and I currently have around 27 games or so. I play it daily (just beat my Super Breakout score today. 201 points!), and I really, really wish more people were into it.

I am all about digging through the backlog hill of shit that is video game history, snuffing out the classic truffles, cleaning them up a bit with my hypothetical pig-man arms, putting quite a bit of HD makeup on them to make them pretty, pretty whores, sprinkling some achievement cocaine on their asses and going to town in their Xbox 360 hole.

God, that sounds awful. I should quit analogies forever.

The point is: I really like these cheap (as in cost) classic game ...

I'm flat broke again and I need a better way to pass the time away than polishing off a lukewarm forty while listening to mp3s out of a tinny laptop speaker. It's another humid Saturday night in New York City and I've got shit to do but fool myself into being productive. Before I know it this weekend'll be over and I'll be back at the plantation before I know it.

You know what's depressing? When I fired this up on my Wii, the title screen read "Nintendo 2001." That makes me feel incredibly old and dying.

ANYWAY, what can you really say about this game except Nintendo RTS-lite? And fun. I'm just really, really happy that they didn't try to cram an existing character into this and went with an original universe. They could easily have made this starring Mario, Kirby, or maybe even Captain Falcon. You know Nintendo would do this. ...

I've never had any "gaming buddies," not that it really mattered, but here's why I don't talk to my friends about games: (taken from Facebook).

Ebert's newest post doesn't change the two main points I have whenever this topic comes up:

1) I don't think that an actual video game in and of itself is art.
2) I don't care if a video game is art or not.

There's a common misconception concerning me going around the community I work in. No, not the racism stuff, that is true. No, I am referring to the idea that I hate kids. I don't hate kids. I love kids (w'sup Mzo, Shine). I have friends who are kids. I do hate the "parents" of most kids that come into the shop though. I put that in quotes because I think parents is a misnomer for these people. From what I can tell, there isn't any parenting going on.
