  1. So there was a Defender III prototype after all.

Maybe you've heard of the Defender III hoax, which had 17 pages of enemies in the non-existent game. Actually there was a proto, but it was nothing like that at all. Defender III was planned to be released around 1990 as a conversion kit for Nintendo Vs. Dualsystem cabinets supporting 2-player link play. The PCB is a Williams Y Unit like the hardware that Smash TV used. A dedicated cabinet was also designed, which would have been a sit-down one similar to Atari Games' Steel Talons. Both

  2. Narc (AC) - 3,925,025 pts. 1CC

Narc is not an unfair game, but rather a good challenge. Being a bit greedy helps so you can rack up some extra lives (every 100,000). You'll also get a free rocket with every 1up. Stage 3 (the bridge) is a great place for this- I had a 610K EOS bonus there. This was done on the default difficulty, 3/10.

    Stage 1: 50 busts.
Stage 2: Didn't try for 50 busts. Maybe I should've. Held onto those rockets. There's a better place to use them anyway.

  3. Kaiser Knuckle: General smackdown by Wulong (FIRST TRY, 1CC) & Li-hua

Maybe the "perfect soldier" is not so perfect.

Someone in Korea has cleared Kaiser Knuckle on a single credit... on VERY HARD difficulty. The General gets put in his place thanks to a grave flaw in his AI. Playing as Wulong, if you use a Ryuukizan (f,d,df+P), there's a good chance that he'll try to counter with a front kick. Counter that attempt with a crouching strong kick. Kick ass. Repeat.

Surely there must be a similar trick for

  4. Prototypes Found: Rolling Thunder 3 (arcade) & DC Vs. SNK (arcade)

Two prototypes for the arcade have been found. The first two Rolling Thunder games did appear in arcades, but not the third. Unless you count a 1993 location test.

Rolling Thunder 3's prototype was about completed and was ready to ship if it had done well at loketest. Namco had some of their System 2 board sets left over when they decided to move the Final Lap series to System R for its next game. Unfortunately, fighting games were stiff competition for most other genres at

  5. DariusBurst CS: AC original route ADH no-miss, 124M.

    DARIUSBURST Chronicle Saviours
DBAC Original mode, from PS4 version

    Player: gameoverDude
    Ship: Genesis
    Route: ADH
    Score: 124003600

A good no-miss run up until the botch job on the final boss kill (nope, no Counter Burst finish there... sorry.) Placed 2nd on local rankings for H-route & Genesis. This would likely have been my new 1st place for H-route local ranking if not for that.

  6. Time Crisis 5: 5.6M play by nCaD, 2P side

HZH has totally destroyed Time Crisis 5 with a 6M score, but someone else is right on his tail. Here's nCaD with a 5.6M run on the Player 2 side (Marc Godart).

This version of TC5 TM uses subtitles in Bahasa Indonesia, but spoken dialogue is still in English.

At the end, you'll notice some "suiciding" against the final boss during his last phase. One bullet is deliberately missed. Damage is taken but this allows repeating that phase

  7. Time Crisis 5: True Mastermind Edition

Not too long ago, the True Mastermind Edition upgrade for Time Crisis 5 started trickling out to select areas. Now it has been released worldwide. The kit comes with 2 pop cards labeled "New Stages! The Complete Edition!" & "Mastermind Edition Released!' for operators to hang on the cabinet. Look for a new title screen which also features Wild Dog & Wild Fang instead of just Luke & Marc. Upgrading the game is as simple as plugging in a USB jump drive.

  8. Time Crisis 5: some thoughts & impressions

It's been one hell of a long wait (9 years) but here is Time Crisis 5. As before, Wild Dog is back and a new team of VSSE agents is out to stop him. Robert Baxter returns but not as a playable character. Luke O'Neill (player 1) and Marc Godart (player 2) team up with Robert to stop an old nemesis. Running on PC hardware (Namco System ES3), this is one of a few arcade games that's powered by Unreal Engine.

What TC5 brings this time is the double pedal system and the weapon change

  9. Kaiser Knuckle: Team Mikado Gets General!

Team Mikado is on a mission to take out one of fighting's most infamous bosses... Kaiser Knuckle's notoriously cheap General! Rugal is nothing in comparison.

Starting out with Lihua, they qualify to fight him by meeting 2 requirements:
    1) No Continues.
    2) Score 900,000 or better by the time Azteca is defeated.

While it takes 15 Re-Challenges, they eventually get General using Wulong.

If you're in a hurry to see the good

  10. Mutation Nation 3026500 pts. 1CC

Here is Mutation Nation, totally destroyed on default MVS difficulty 4.

This is one of the better from the Neo-Geo's sparse selection of belt scroll/beat'em ups. It's got some cool special attack items- charge up the ki meter, then let one loose. This is helpful to your score in case of several "sniper" enemies entering at once, so you can kill all three instantly to keep any from escaping. Type-D is my favorite- you are turned into a tornado which

  11. Last Resort 535700 pts. 1CC

Here's my 1CC vid of Last Resort. This is all one part, 43:52. Default MVS settings are used. (difficulty 3, Lives 3, extend at 60K/130K)

I died three times on this one- twice in stage 1-4 and once on stage 2-5.

Around 25000 pts. can be gotten out of stage 5's mothership, and it could be a good place to suicide for score if you get sent back to the start of stage 5 when dying (is 600000 possible?). Loop 2 is not that much more difficult

  12. Last Resort may be next...

Right now I've reached stage 10 (2-5) of Last Resort (Neo-Geo) with a single credit. All that remains is to get to the end. The final boss is no problem if you know what weapon to bring to his lair. Hopefully this one will be going down soon.

A replay should be coming before too long. Be ready...

  13. Giga Wing Generations 1CC -1095京1526兆5527億73932520 (over 10.95 quintillion)

Here's a 1CC full run of Giga Wing Generations (Taito TypeX arcade version) using Hawk.

Final score: 1095京1526兆5527億73932520 (over 10.95 quintillion)
    Final multiplier: 367690168
    1 CC/1 Miss at stage 5 boss.

NOTE: There is a bit of object flicker in a few parts of the video, but this is not the game's fault. I didn't see it during the game play. Something happened in the recording.
