An early morning inch of snow is all it took for me to have soaked feet for the duration of my shift. Employees were parked before the salt fleet arrived, which meant that several areas of the lot were a haphazard mess as people who were there beforehand parked at will and giving themselves comically wide berth for their cars.

Working on Form 8283 now, and it's one of the forms which have the table structure in the new format that the IRS creates these documents. I understand that this is likely an easier way to make adjustments to several fields at once, but this becomes an issue to me when I want to have scripts that place the values of the cells in other locations. Outside of a table and isolated on a page, a field could be identified with a name like "Page1.l3250" or something, whereas a similar field in ...

Forms 5329 and 6198 are done. 6198 was not revised for the new year, so that was a simple task of opening the work I did last year, removing the old schema, and replacing the new schema. Done. Also have Form 8889 mostly done, just need to put the final touches on the binding of the fields with scripts to make it all go in the proper place. 2106EZ is after that. I'm pretty sure that there's a way the IRS could condense Schedule F and Form 4835 to make one document that serves the reporting requirements of both. They're more similar than not.

I'm glad I made a point to annotate the tax years used in the 2011 Schedule J, as it makes copying the information to the current year's form simple.

Now if only I can find a current tax schedule for the 2012 year. I can see the brackets, but there's a bit of computation for the tax amount which includes a base that I seem to be missing. I guess I should figure it out manually. The form is basically done otherwise.

Cleaned up Schedule F without issue. Schedule J is next, and I'm not particularly looking forward to that mess. Schedule E took up most of my day. I have the process as streamlined as I can basically make it, and I didn't encounter any issues, yet it still takes several hours to set up all of the fields, get them matched to the XSD content, and put in all the scripts to make it all work out. I guess I can take some small consolation in knowing that it's one of the more dense forms to be used so beyond a few things like 3800 and 1040SS I'm mostly looking at forms taking less time than what I had today. ...

Forms 8815 (exclusion of bond interest), 8862 (intent to claim EIC after disallowance), and 8867 (preparer's EIC checklist) are all done so far today. The new 8867 adds another page of items to check off to verify that you have bent over backwards to ensure that the taxpayers claiming EIC aren't using false information in order to be eligible. I wonder how long it will take until the fingerprints of the taxpayers, qualifying children, and preparer are required to be submitted with the return. ...

Almost had Schedule EIC down at the end of the evening's work yesterday. It's rather simple, but there's a few text match scripts which I need to import from another form so that I can finalize it.

Very pleased with the songs that appeared in today's session. Many I haven't played in some time, or otherwise are songs which I more like than dislike. A new record or two would have been better, but such things are never guaranteed.

Family dinner today for observation of my birthday. It was the most convenient day for the other people to be around, one of whom has a birthday on this actual day. So that took up a lot of time.
