Allergies are hitting me hard today. Working on §42 of the tax code work, and I'm encountering some updates which I magically neglected from years ago which I'm not sure need to be retained now or altered on the basis of what's show on the Cornell site. I guess the next step is to go directly to the GPO site which has the .txt content and see how they compare. I'm willing to bet that the Cornell content is current, as it has been with the other updates so far, but considering how ...
I'd like to take the opportunity today to mention the latest aired Doctor Who episode, entitled "The Crimson Horror". The wife and I watched it today. We generally immediately agreed that it was terrible. The more you think about any particular scene or moment, the less it makes any kind of sense. The gigantic victorian loudspeakers that blared noise was used for ... what? The victims needed to be dipped into the vat of poison using gigantic cage structures because ... why? ...
Back to work on the OneLine Tax Code, and I have encountered a wonderful block of legislation for me to parse. Public Law 112-240 is the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012. http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/PLAW-11...112publ240.pdf . I've just scraped the top of this iceberg and already have come to see new rules regarding exclusion of beneficiary income given to certain people that is used to pay insurance premiums, as well as the very longly demanded adjustment for inflation ...
Today is the wake up call. I received a letter in the IRS that my refund has been adjusted - in the positive direction. I made a mistake on my own return. It was a minor error, and it didn't result in me owing an additional amount, but it was still an error on my own return. An error that I should have easily noticed and avoided. In my capacity as an Enrolled Agent, it is unacceptable for that to have happened. So it's time to re-evaluate my life. ...
I received a call at about 1130AM today, and it was from the woman who came to pick up her repaired PC from here yesterday. "I can't find my resume on my computer." "Let me walk you to the directory, I know it's there because I made a point to look and ensure that it was there. Click on the C: drive." "... oh, OK, I think I'll find it ok now, thanks." Five minutes later, she calls back. "What's the administrator ...
I was up against the midnight tick for yesterday's entry, so I didn't get to write the one sentence summary for how I felt about the song session. In reference to that writing, I had more to do with that woman's computer today. I recall a pop up that had come on before saying that Flash needed an update (coming from a pop up of a third party site), so I got it loaded and installed. Then there were some Windows Update patches that weren't installed yet, so the installation and reboot ...
Something which I don't take for granted is a lawnmower starting, so today's first use for the new year was a definite relief as I was able to get it to start on the very first attempt. Fill, pull, and off it went. Beautiful. If you recall the woman who was my wife's coworker, in that she was fired yesterday. Concurrently, she had asked me last week if I could help her with her PC. She has recruited my help before, and I was able to recover her content after she had fallen victim ...
One of my wife's coworkers was fired today. My wife's job entails money accounting and is done in full nine hour shifts in a room that is maybe seventy square feet, if not less. The room is tucked away within the building and the single door must be closed as much as possible. When you're cooped up with people in there on a full time basis, little things can become aggravated over time. The coworker had two counts ready to be held against her, one for her handling of an issue and ...
This is how I get a night spent without so much more than a blink in effort. Dinner has passed and I sit to check Diablo 3 for auction activity, as per normal. One of the guys on the friends list starts to talk with me a bit. I continue to do checks. I look up the latest listings on an item that I was looking to get, and the lowest prices were sitting at 200 million for some time; some would be posted at 177 or 180 and be sold within a day. I search now and see one a hair better than ...
An interesting bit of tax news came up in my feed today. The official summation of the new tax is posted by the County board here: http://www.cookcountygov.com/taxonom...%20handout.pdf . A form which individuals are meant to use to file this tax return is here: http://www.cityofchicago.org/content...rms/8402IN.pdf . Cook County of Illinois is now imposing a 1.25% ...
Today's retail experience was unique. At the start of the day I'm greeted with the news that we need to do some arranging in the vestibules. The two main entrances are formed with glass doors which are breakaway hinged for emergency purposes. Since the store opened, within the vestibules and in front of these same doors we have had recycling bins, trash bins, and other items. The news which came is that these doors were to be free of all items immediately. With no other place to put ...
I guess the current cheap outdoor grill that we have is still more impervious to water than the older one was, as the inside of the grill was a thick sludge rather than a dry pile of ash. Cleanup was not very pleasant, and I still have some residual soot in my fingernails. One of the D3/TL2 pals of mine has now moved on to Dead Island to play with his girlfriend. Looks like I won't be joining them there. Songs took a long time to get off to start, as I had a crash right ...
Woke up with a pretty sore back. This isn't the first time this has happened to me, and the correlation that I can see is that it has a tendency to be stronger if I sleep longer. As before, the pain went away as the day went on. It's just another small thing to keep a look out for in the future. I did manage to make it to my sister's place to help move the elliptical machine. The task was done immediately and took only a few minutes, and getting there didn't take much more than fifteen ...
The Wacom Cintiq 21UX is a fine piece of hardware, but when I acquired one for my wife, I unwittingly did so at the exact worst possible time. It turns out that her's is among the batch for which they tried to use a new screen covering, and the material used turned out to be susceptible to scratch erosion over extended use. I tried using car wax and anti-scratch materials to smooth it out, and doing so may have made the screen feel physically smoother for a time, the patch of scratches was still ...
I wouldn't have particularly guessed it right off, but it turns out that the most common matter which gets wound up and clogged in shopping cart wheels is hair. They are easy enough to disassemble with two .5 inch wrenches, and a hammer or wrench for axis bolts which are particularly rusted or otherwise difficult to remove. In the last hour of the day I had two upper managers walk with me around the entire perimeter of the building, just so that one of them could point out specific items which she ...
