A few days ago at work I came to discover that it's possible to use the stationary terminals to access the same environment which we use on our handheld scanners in the normal process of work. I should have remembered that these last two Sundays when I was hit with the last minute crunch and needed to do some raw numeric data entry. Doing that would have been much faster on an actual normal keyboard.

I gave the preliminary return estimate to the client and did successfully correct the errors on the Test 7 Form 1120 scenario to have that be received without error. That put me at 11PM. OK, let's go to bed. The last time that I noticed reading on the clock in the bedroom was 1240AM, and sometime soon after that I was greeted by a cat who demanded for me to lay upright on my back so that he could sit on my chest. It appears that there a few additions to my Google+ page which never got responded to in the interim that has passed since I last personally logged onto the specific email for that account. I really do need to do everything by myself. Upon looking at it, though, I think it might be a good venue from which I can more easily cherry pick interesting items pertaining to the tax field, and that might be the mentality that I need to embrace if I am to get anywhere.

I received an answer which I never would have expected and I did take the time to argue about after receiving it. Three hours on the phone with various entities yields the result that I have a case to which the IRS should respond to me tomorrow. I don't understand what it is about this kind of income to report that I'm the only person who is experiencing a problem. What am I missing? I understand what needs to be reported, where it needs to be reported on paper, what Forms and schedules are allowed to be filed in the electronic format, and despite all of that I can't reconcile the proper way to do this. When a person acquires corporate stock through an Employee Purchase Plan at a discounted price, there are rules for the quantity and method for how that discount is reported on the tax return in the year that the stock is sold. One natural consequence of me being alone at retail work yesterday and the way in which I went about the day is that there were many empty spots on the store shelves to be found and filled today. On a day when grocery picks are large it would take the team until 12PM at latest to have the list complete. One person called off today, and there was much more to do beyond the grocery picks. I stayed twenty minutes late at the retail job today to finish the list of audits to complete. As it was last Sunday, I was the only person there, and unlike last week I had dedicated the majority of the day to simply doing audits in the proper fashion. I left myself forty minutes before the scheduled end of the shift to complete the rest of the audits in another fashion, and almost had them done at the top of the hour. At Christmas time last year, I had written a few small emails to a few of my former D3 PC pals for some holiday greetings. There's a mail from one of my relatives that I've had in my box for a while; it was relating to an estate return and I thought was their individual return as well. They're in the middle of house sales so I know that they were in no rush or desire to have things filed immediately. Time is coming close to the end of the season, though, so I knew that I needed to start up the process soon. I finally stopped dragging my heels to open the mails and noticed that their individual return data wasn't sent. ...

It's pretty nice to be able to prepare a tax return which is done by your father in advance, and one that isn't too complex that it takes more than four Forms to file. He had a sizable refund, but this is likely due to how much they had owed the previous year and had no desire to have that experience repeat. I did make a few adjustments which he didn't account for, so it also goes to show that having multiple sets of eyes looking over the figures is helpful.

I probably fell asleep in the middle of playing the game towards the end of this morning. I wish the other two would have called me out on something to keep me awake, if not take it upon myself to start babbling gibberish constantly to force myself awake. Sigh. If I can offer an excuse, it's that I was up for 23 hours by that point, so I was definitely ready to pass out by that point. I squeezed in a quick bit of D3 before the meet-up and had a few nice drops so now I'm itching to play a bit more. ...

The holiday is here and I have a new bottle of Jameson to crack open tonight. Let's see how much I can get through and how long I can stay awake. At least one friend will be around to play some stuff through the night - and now the other is confirmed. Sweet.
