  1. LB log - 2016 Week 33

The job did in fact make good on its future claim and made me the contract offer, which presumably would have gone into effect next week. I was presented with two choices. One choice had me work four days per week, with three of them having my home time be 1230PM at earliest and each of them subsequently require me to wake up at 830PM the same day to begin the next day's route. Bear in mind that no fewer than one out of every four days I've worked with them so far, I have run into delays. The other ...

  2. LB log - 2016 Week 32

I have a long weekend, but the job has tried to have me come in throughout the break regardless. I didn't work today, which makes this the first Saturday that I haven't worked in a very long time. Possibly a year, if not more. I'm not scheduled to come in until the 10th. I have refused their calls to have me do more work in light of the last two days of the week I have coming up; they have me working from 1130PM until 1230PM twice in a row. This is after I had the sit down discussion with that senior ...

  3. LB log - 2016 Week 31

This has certainly been a fun first week for the new job.

Taking 70 minutes to get home one day rattled me rather strongly, and then the next work day had me leave the house at 1AM and not return until 7PM, after which I had to leave the next day at 2AM for the next day's work. I can certainly empathize with the other person who helped me get hired here, only to do the same for himself and subsequently already quit. I guess squeaky wheels get greased at times, though, because when ...

  4. LB log - 2016 Week 30

As of this specific moment I am officially unemployed. I will receive a call at some time in Monday to determine where and when I'll report to the first day of the new job on Tuesday. It probably will be a 3AM start, on the assumption that I'm going to essentially be thrown right into the task. I spent this week with my now former company as an assistant to other drivers on my old routes - both of them, being the city route and the training route which came about today. I was hoping to have a chance ...

  5. LB log - 2016 Week 29

My last week with the present job is on the immediate horizon. I'm officially suspended from driving the route now. I have a new job already lined up and have given appropriate notice to both employers that this next Saturday will mark the end of my employment. In the meantime I have rode along with the new driver the entire week, and have essentially been training my replacement how to run it. (In truth, what appears to be potentially happening is that he will escort the person who will take the ...

  6. LB log - 2016 Week 28

300AM Wednesday morning. I'm leaving from my third stop and I see the wind starting to pick up and a few drops of rain hit the windshield. It's been dry and hot for the past few days. Within a few moments the rain becomes stronger and reaches a steady rate, but I still take a while to even start using the windshield wipers as they tend to leave streaks and could cause fogging if the temperature imbalance is great enough. I maintain a 60 MPH speed. It's windy, but I've driven in windier. It's rainy, ...

  7. LB log - 2016 Week 27

My usual routine for arrival at home after a day of work is to take the shoes off right at the door, where there's a doormat, then proceed to remove the work clothes and leave the work pants on the ground at the end of the kitchen table where I usually sit for meals. The job gets my clothes rather dirty and it's best to not take the clothes into a bedroom where the grime could unnecessarily spread. Tuesday evening's discovery was that it wasn't just dirt which could spread. Earlier that day I had ...

  8. LB log - 2016 Week 26

    It's halftime.

My younger niece is having a baptism soon, and it's summer. I was due for a haircut. I went to have it done at the same place I did last time, which is at a point that's on my driving work route. It's a pretty small farm town. There's an area of more gravel than pavement in the rear of the parking lot where trucks sit, and I'm leaving from the store to return to my vehicle. I unlock the passenger's side first, then begin to walk over to the driver's side to leave. I ...

  9. LB log - 2016 Week 25

More late fun at work this week, during the first half of it at least. The last two days were better, though freight and return volume fluctuations were enough to ensure I didn't get back home particularly sooner today or yesterday than the other days. Happily, there's not much else to report on that front. Though before leaving this subject I'd just like to say that I do feel sorry for skunks. Their field of vision is ten feet and they're black colored, so they have basically no chance to live ...

  10. LB log - 2016 Week 24

Work was too long this week, ends on a hot weather note, I signed a false name on a petition for us all to be paid more (which had no specific reason behind the demand), I'll finish this post after going to see the new dumb video game movie with my wife because we rarely do anything together lately, and I have some D3 bullshit to tend to after all of the aforementioned. Oh and some guy was rude to me on another board. Who am I? No idea, man. You got me.

Well now that I'm back from ...

  11. LB log - 2016 Week 23

A Libertarian Party convention came and went and it was an embarrassment to all involved. Statesmanship is apparently long dead. All along I've been wondering why prominent members of the party (such as they can be) weren't responding to every news story on their own website and elsewhere at every possible chance. I guess now I know why.

I guess there were some people at the GM PSO who took the whole week off, because all of my work days besides today had very late starts to them. ...

  12. LB log - 2016 Week 22

Cancer claims another one. Sister's husband's side. The most I can do is pay a visit to see them separately over this weekend, as the services will occur when I'm on schedule to attend to my job. So it goes.

The parts worker who I usually see at 6153 asked if I had any weekend plans on the horizon. I just responded with "more sleep". Much in the same as Christmas and other days, one main aspect to not doing anything extraordinary on the day itself is out of some kind of ...

  13. LB log - 2016 Week 21

For a work week which had no major incidents of any kind, it sure has been stupid. I wasn't home before 1PM at all in the week, and most of the days were closer to 2PM. My right arm has developed a soreness which is enough to bother me but not enough to really slow me down, thus making itself the perfect persistent distraction throughout the days. Thankfully the parallel soreness in my back seems to have dissipated. My wife did a good job of loading the weekend MP3 card with more songs than last ...

  14. LB log - 2016 Week 20

Today's run was the highlight to the work week. It appears that some kind of Friday the 13th curse hit the GM ordering system, so no normal freight from the local part deployment center was processed and shipped out. After getting gas for the truck at the end of the route and getting food on the way home, I walked in exactly at noon. I can't recall the last time I was able to do that. This does pretty much guarantee that the outbound load will be doubled up for Monday's run, but I'll enjoy today's ...

  15. LB log - 2016 Week 19

Company's in this weekend. The usual. When I came upstairs to start my morning routine to leave for work, he was there on the couch watching something on his ipad. I walked over, said hello, he looked up and said hello back, and that was that. Thanks for being here. I'm not looking particularly forward to the next few hours to come tonight after my writing this passage.

On the subject of that person - it was his prom weekend just prior to this one. There's a woman who he's crushed ...
