I didn't really have a choice. If I physically removed her I'd have an assault beef, and if I kept locking her out without an eviction notice, she could call the cops. The landlord/tennant rights situation is skewed heavily toward tennants here and if she insistend on fighting it, it could have taken months of court battles.

We're not dumb, obviously the police were consulted, and while they said they could have put a charge on her, they couldn't permanently remove her or consider her a trespasser.

It's obvious that this person is as manipulative as hell, so it's clear what you have to do going forward - cut her off completely, and keep all your housemates on board with that. No sympathy, no pity, no "I'm better now" or "maybe we can work this out," she can get that from somebody else.

It's natural to want to be compassionate to somebody who has obvious emotional problems, but if that person does not show an awareness of those problems and a willingness to engage with them with a great deal of effort, then you're not being a support network, you're being a willing host for a parasite. A person is often not capable of changing deeply entrenched behavioural patterns until they hit rock bottom and crisis absolutely forces them to.

If she's driving after 12 drinks on the regular, then that good old Freudian death urge is running her life, and as you had to learn first hand, that's directed outward just as often as it is inward. The way she chose to handle that fish thing was not random, there's a clear pattern happening here that you don't want to be a part of.

Legally it can be very tough to get rid of someone around here. Obviously laying hands on her was not an option.

Really we pretty much had to convince her to leave on her own. The police couldn't throw her out and it would have taken months to get an actual eviction.

As for living on my own, I actually really like living with other people, and I like all the rest of my roommates a lot.

This is why I always lived alone. The world and most of its inhabitants are crazy.
