• Miserable Podcast of Secrets #3

"It's almost too real for its own good."

This week, we focus on open world games, but we talk about dozens of other topics as well. With the release of Saints Row: The Third and the recently revealed Grand Theft Auto V as inspiration, we look over the genre and even some of its not-so-obvious precursors.

There are a lot of improvements coming to The Miserable Podcast of Secrets. There are some unmistakable things to fix: compression, sound levels, stuttering, pacing, direction, research. None is glaring, but all are significant.

I listened to a bunch of the last one. How long do these go each? Like two hours?

You should trim it down to a tight/entertaining one hour.

LA Noire overworld? Are we stealing topics from my posts now? Cause that would be an unfortunate turn for the podcast to take.

This is very true, one hour is really the optimal time for a podcast.

We have every intention of doing that, but we end up going on tangents.

So stop talking about Metal Gear for 20 minutes every episode, and please never talk about Kinect Disneyland

I'll do more editing starting with this next one, and I've toyed with the idea of not having everyone participate in every segment every week.

I like longer podcasts myself, because I just listen to a bit of it each day during lunch. However, I can appreciate a more focused podcast as well.

I like longer podcasts as well. As long as the conversation is good, I don't care how long they are......to a certain extent. Shidoshi and Nick Rox's podcast is a little long for me (4 1/2 hours?!).

I can listen to Ron and Fez or Opie and Anthony for 3 hours, because they go through news stories and take callers and have been doing radio for decades and know how to make a show fun to listen to for that long.

GTA WAS THE FIRST OPEN WORLD GAME?! Have you never read any of Neozeedeater's threads on open world games? You've learned NOTHING!! No wonder he left! (I may be exaggerating what was stated)

edit: GTA IV came out shortly after 9/11. That's why they took out the flying. Priceless.
