• BAFTA Game Awards 2010- Even Americans Can Vote

        Voice yer choice.

Usually the awards handed out by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts are voted on by those in the affected industries, but - lucky us - the video game of the year is selected via a vote open to the public.

But with the academy already picking the winners in the other game categories (like Original Score, Artistic Achievement, and individual genres), when will Game of the Year become prestigious enough to be left to the experts, with possibly a Favorite Game category open to general polling? Maybe the problem is that there are not enough experts to make for a confident vote? Remember when Jethro Tull won a "Best Heavy Metal" Grammy? Well, at this point in gaming's inexorable rise to full mainstream credibility, maybe there still are not enough serious gamers to make Game of the Year truly mean something.

In any case, 65,000 votes chose Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 king of the mountain last year, and there is another Call of Duty game up for the honor this year. The most interesting entry to watch may be Limbo, an indie game that came almost out of nowhere to capture the imagination of a spectrum of gamers on Xbox Live Arcade.

The list of games follows, and if you look carefully you'll see the link to vote for BAFTA's Game of the Year. If you're lucky, you might even win a huge prize from Microsoft, including a big-screen TV, a 360, a Move, and some games.

Call of Duty: Black Ops (Treyarch)
        Dance Central (Harmonix)
        FIFA 11 (EA Sports)
        Halo Reach (Bungie Studios)
        Heavy Rain (Quantic Dream)
        Limbo (Playdead Studios)
        Mass Effect 2 (Bioware)
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (Criteron Games)
Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar San Diego)
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo EAD Tokyo)

The GAME British Academy Video Game Awards will be presented on March 16, 2011. This will be the eight installment of the event.
