There was one more stressful day in the week. The rapid change from warmer weather to cold probably caused some moisture and humidity to freeze within some air brake chambers, and assuming that is the case I got to experience the consequences first hand. I get to work, hook up to the trailer, load it up, and leave - but in the process of doing so I notice that it takes the tractor a lot more time to actually move from a full stop and that the cab itself vibrates much more noticeably as this happens. My first instinct is to think that the issue is with one of the wheels not turning in the combination, so I pull over to the gas station between the hub and expressway to check it all out. I don't see any skid marks, smell anything unusual, none of the tire walls feel warm, and I can visually confirm that all wheels are rolling as I pull out of there. I hit the expressway and find myself unable to even reach a speed high enough to get to the highest gear, and that I could be going uphill with the accelerator fully depressed and still lose speed. I finally reach my first stop and get to a turn where I have to brake to a sub-10MPH speed, and once that happens the truck nearly dies out and I see and smell a large quantity of black smoke coming from the rear of the tractor, around where the fifth wheel connects to the trailer. I call maintenance, we go through the steps of doing the air brake tests to ensure that they still function in some capacity, which they do, and the smoke eventually stops. I complete delivery of the first stop, get to move from there, and get through the rest of the day without further incident. As fortunate as it was for that to be the case, it still make me very nervous throughout my entire run as I never knew to expect the brakes to actually fail at any given time and without warning. The smell remained and ensured that I had no way to simply push it out of my mind as I performed the rest of the job. It was very nerve racking and draining of my spirits.

The next day was nicer in that I had no incidents with work and went from there to my parent's place to visit with my niece. She's at nineteen months now and is able to speak the digits one through ten, most letters of the alphabet, and several colors. I didn't get to exercise as I would have liked to do otherwise, but I think I made the right decision to socialize with her instead.

I didn't have a lot of time for songs int he rest of this week and incidentally I had no new records to report either. My arcade visit earlier today, however, did feel much more gratifying than the last few times and that I played pretty well, despite having less credits played due to more people being there.
