One of the incidents that came last week concerned a return of some engines. The location isn't very busy and in the few months which I've had this route now I don't recall having delivered more than one engine to them in the entire time. When I approached that day, there were three for me to take back. Most days I don't have a pallet jack with me and this was one such day, so I needed to find something to use on their site to move the gear to my trailer. Their parts department is separated from their repair garage, so I went to see how to enter that area. There was a closed door at the other end of the parts room and I did take a moment to look around its border and the sides of it to see if there were any visible signs that it had an alarm equipped. I didn't see anything, but I heard plenty when I opened the door. The alarm system was indeed equipped and very functional. Despite taking my time to finish the rest of the delivery to wait for the police to show up, I didn't see them approaching until I had already started to drive away. I parked, returned to the facility, handed my ID over to one officer, and explained the situation to the other. The owner of the business eventually arrived as well, looking and acting like he had just woken up (the time of day at this point was around 6AM). It wasn't until I returned to the hub at the end of the day that I was informed that after this had all transpired, the owner called the hub and proceeded to scream all kinds of expletives at the woman who answered him.

This all sets the scene for what I encountered two days ago upon arrival at the same place. Yes, they did have an engine for me to pick up. They did have their pallet jack placed underneath it. They also drew a picture of a bow, colored it with pink highlighter, and taped it to the handle of the pallet jack. Had I not known of what the receptionist at the hub had to deal with last week, I probably would have found the set up humorous. Maybe. But knowing what she had endured, I froze for a moment upon seeing it, finally said "cute" out loud to myself, and went about getting it to the trailer. Knowing the full response to it all, I can't help but feel that there might have been an at least implicit undertone of insult to the scene. Was I to interpret this as their way of saying something like "hey here you go lol", or is it more like "now -here's- your pallet jack, princess jackass". When I returned to the hub that day and explained it all to the receptionist, she was basically aloof in response. Apparently, they're rather used to being abused and dealing with petulant and disconsolate people in the course of every day. On the whole, that same sensation which I picked up from the old route seems to be all the more true here. Some people are consistently helpful and professional in their job. Others seem to be rather miserable people who can become outright malicious in their words and actions, but have that all seemingly wash away by the next day. I don't know how people can live like that.

I didn't have a lot of time for playing extra mode in the sessions this week, but at least I still seem to be generally finding good success when the opportunity arises. I definitely appreciate the times when I can overwrite a record from 2012.
