The change to my work route is very much to my benefit in terms of time spent, and I should see next week's paycheck first before fully confirming that I break even in terms of earnings otherwise. I believe it's the case, but I don't want to crow about it until I know for sure. Regardless, the changes make the route much more tolerable. I lose four stops and $20 per day in earnings. In doing so, I lose two hours of time required to run the route. With that change, I have enough time to do the optional preload which pays a flat $30 per day, and doing that means that I take less time per stop since I have already set everything in place by my own hand. I only need to show up an hour earlier than I did otherwise for this to be accounted. The net result is that I can be home before noon on a normal day when before I was lucky to be home before 2 PM. The other major shift is that I drive more of the route on interstates and US Routes, which means that if I still am here in the winter, I will be less vulnerable to being stranded in the middle of nowhere. The changes also mean that I tend to not see a single person until my last three of the fifteen stops. So all told that means I keep the same pay and spend less time away from home in general, an even greater reduction of time on the road, less volume of goods to handle, and less interaction with potentially irrational bitchy people. I am tempted to say that this is a full on victory for me in aggregate. Perhaps the catch is that my own personal worth as an employee is silently downgraded in the perspective of management, in that it had to come to this for me to run the route in a manner which pleased all the customers. If that's true, hopefully I can stay out of the spotlight long enough for it to not matter whether I remain or not. One major reaction I have otherwise is that I cannot imagine why the person who had the route before me ever volunteered to have those stops in the first place. Two extra hours of work on top of what is a typical twelve hour day for $20. How would anyone justify that?

My parents have some sort of cabin on rental out of state, and are taking this weekend to vacation there. When I informed my mother of these work changes, she responded with a text hours later to remind me that I could come to the cabin on the weekend as well, especially more so now since I have more time away from work. Assuming this week was typical, I'm still away from the house fourteen hours on average (out at 930PM, back by 1130AM or so) from doing the job. If I were to actually go out to the cabin, it's a four hour drive just to get there. I've said as much to her before. I guess she feels compelled to make the offer regardless just to be courteous and all. Thanks but no thanks.

Another Sunday arcade session went well (especially since I was able to finally get a good Lift position figured out), this time with more plays thanks to less competitors to use the machine. Here's hoping that can continue. Home sessions weren't too good this time and I had some really bad plays on simple charts, but the fact that they came on simple charts tells me that I might have been too anticipatory from the start and consistently read them too fast to hit on time and kept it early throughout the play. Nothing certainly seemed to be coming out late, at least. More importantly, I didn't have some kind of rage seizure when those poor plays came about. The response was a spoken "aw, man", then roll to the next. Keep rolling.
