This has certainly been a fun first week for the new job.

Taking 70 minutes to get home one day rattled me rather strongly, and then the next work day had me leave the house at 1AM and not return until 7PM, after which I had to leave the next day at 2AM for the next day's work. I can certainly empathize with the other person who helped me get hired here, only to do the same for himself and subsequently already quit. I guess squeaky wheels get greased at times, though, because when I got home that 7PM late time, I made a call to dispatch with the intent to do the same. I was talked off of that cliff, though. The next day was adjusted for me to run a route to their corporate headquarters, and while there I was able to speak directly to one of the bosses. We came to an understanding - the new route assignments are coming up soon, and if there's nothing good available to me by the time I get to make a choice, I can cleanly walk away. I phrased the decision to him by putting most of the blame on myself, but I don't think I'm entirely at fault for my distress over the situation. The day I ran that late was due to a mishap with the person (not of his fault) who picks up the trailer which I drop. I understand that their handling of it was most convenient to the situation in general, but I was put in a bad position (euphemistically speaking) as a consequence. Getting home from that just to sleep and wake up to go in again was rather difficult. Still, I was able to persevere, I was able to converse about it with people in charge, we came to an understanding, and if I need to make a jump, I can do so cleanly from this point. I'll only have to put up with this for another few weeks if it doesn't work out. I can live with that.

At least now I know what kind of limits I can put on my commuting area. I'll also make a point to be more deliberate in choosing who to apply with in the future. I am fortunate to have the luxury in not needing to have a paycheck every single week in order to maintain the household.

Home sessions were a roller coaster, as could be expected from this kind of week. If only I could have every day as I did this Monday, coming off of maximum rest. Last arcade session wasn't too great, but that's just as well since I took the time to unlock new songs anyway. I'm happy to say that things did feel better here yesterday and today.
