In the Mouth of Radness

The last few years have been a bit of a blur. Playing with your perception of reality can do that to a person. So here I am, older, wiser and concerned about how I spend my free time. I love a good video game every now and then but I also love having a place to live and a bed to share and good coffee to start every morning. Glancing at an issue of EGM or Play will always bring a rush of memories. The squandered paychecks and the joy of unwrapping a fresh new game. Inhaling the new plastic smell of freshly burnt media. These were once the sweetest things in life.
Last Summer I had my first old-school 8-bit Nintendo stolen from my garage. Along with it was a cartridge collection that I carried with me for more than 25 years. Some tweaker in downtown San Jose has it now. I only hope that he uses the cartridge cleaner that he took.
I'm happy it happened. At the end of the day it was just a bunch of plastic that I entertained my guests with. I still hadn't beaten Castlevania 3 but I think I can let that one go. The pain of letting go is easily blunted by the reality of the situation. There are more important things in life. With that mindset and knowledge of our limited time on earth, I can't let the loss of Duck Hunt ruin my day.
